though, free speech, and freedom in general is quite fantastic.

but its quite common for "tolerant" people to be the most intolerant of all. Its usaully those who speak tolerance of everybody, that want most to shut down the speech and ideas of others.

its usually those "close minded, bigoted" individuals, that tolerate the beliefs, views, and practices others, even if they vehemently disagree with them, they still support the right for them to do so.

Free speech is a great thing, hate speech isn't, and that's what is being stamped out.

Tolerant people, in this case homosexuals, have every right to be intolerant to homopobia and hate speech.

Yeah, Free speech is great, unless its speech i disagree with!!! only government aproved speech is allowed!!

its a good thing i live in America, where we still mostly have free speech. and "hate" speech is still protected. but dont worry we are well down the road to fascism... 1984 isnt too far away.

and you seem to have no concept of what free speech is. its not speech that you allow to happen becuase you agree with it, its standing up for the speech with which you disagree. its not free speech if it only allowed if you agree with it... but like i said are world is becoming increasingly intolerant, and much much more totalitarian. 

No one is going to change anybody else's mind here. The fact is everyone has their own beliefs and no one has the right to impose theirs on other people including their children.
It's sufficient if we teach children to be kind to and respect ALL people. I think that's something we can all agree on.

I have no issues with this soon to be law. It doesn't take the right away for consenting adults to engage in homosexual acts or punish them in any way. It simply safeguards minors from being influenced.

We should also take into consideration that unlike many western countries at this point religion still has a huge influence on society in Russia and this will cause many people to be more conservative.

It doesn't help either that Russia has one of the lowest birth rates in the world. So there are a few different factors in play here.

There is no need for inverted comma's, it's hate speech plain and simple, you need to understand that this isn't solely down to the government, people in general these days frown upon unprovoked attacks on homosexuality, even a lot of religious people.

Hate speech is frowned upon even in America, look at how the westboro baptist church are treated.

saying "gays must die" is much different than "homosexuality is wrong"

and still their speech is protected, even if its inconvienient speech.
