Okey Dokey: "it just wouldn't be the same. could you imagine playing re4 on the N64?"

No, I recently stated that I couldn't play RE2 anymore because the graphics were too bad.
But the difference between N64/Cube are way smaller than between Wii/PS360. And before everyone starts naming stats and figures: I mean in realism. The step from RE (1) from PSone to Gamecube was amazing. If Capcom would release RE again for PS360, the quality increase wouldn't be that big, because on Gamecube Jill/Chris looked human unlike the Psone version.

During that time, RE1 graphics seemed awesome and Chris and Jill seemed pretty humanlike too. I for one was blown away by the police department representation in RE2. The graphical leap between this generation and the previous one is as big as the previous ones.

While i agree with what you said, i believe most people are okay with Wii visuals even though there are more powerful consoles out there (the sales agree with me). I mean maybe the leap was just as big but the impact was not. If PS4 and Xbox3 come out will you stop liking PS3's graphics? Wii graphics (when used to the full) are good enough for the majority of people, N64's were not.

I'm also settled with the Wii graphics (like MP3, SMG), I already own and love a Wii. But the point is that while there is something that looks better, people will move towards it and the less competent machine will look "paler". If the Wii was the first console on the market and no screenshots were released for PS3 and Xbox360 games and you saw Super Mario Galaxy, then you'd go "WOW!", but now, even SMG pales in comparison to the HD systems (sheer graphical quality taken into account only mind - not artistic design).

The impact of the current generation transition certainly isn't as big, I agree. But I think 3 things account for that:

1) Nintendo DS success over the more powerful machine and the almighty "Playstation" brand bred confidence in Nintendo once again.

2) The less trained eye that Wii targets (casuals) almost cannot tell the difference between a Wii and a HD game.

3) HD is pushed way too early and too hard in the market IMO. If the same transition was taking place in 5-10 years from now, where HD is widely known, available and mature, more people would have embraced the HD systems.

P.S: 1,000 posts, YAY!

P.S.2: exeis vrei pouthena to Guitar Hero 3 gia to Wii? epsaksa pantou kai den to vrisk, mono tin PS3 ekdosh exoun...

Oh come on. By this logic, last generation should've ended up as Xbox->Gamecube->PS2, as the PS2 was the least powerful console. And before that we had PS1 vs. N64, with the less powerful PS1 in the lead for that generation as well. But that's the thing, graphical capabilities have NEVER been the deciding factor in which console people buy. If people were naturally drawn to whatever could produce the prettiest graphics, we'd all be playing PC games with the highest level graphics cards available. Believe me though, I'm not rushing out to spend $1000 just so I can play Crysis on High resolution.

To respond to your points:

 1. This is what I've been saying. The less powerful system has sold better than the more powerful one. In this case it was an innovative design and innovative games that appealed to a wide audience.

2. This statement is a bit condescending. Just because people don't play games doesn't make them stupid/blind.

3. I'll agree with this. Right now there's really not much benefit in going HD. It costs more than a lot of people are willing to pay, and most people are still happy with standard definition. In 5-10 years more people will have access to HD. But don't forget this will be due to lowered costs in HD technology. Sooooo looking at it this way, in 5-10 years Nintendo's console would also have been capable of higher end graphics at a lower cost. It would be Nintendo's HD graphics + innovative design vs. Sony and Microsoft's SUPER-HD graphics and we'd be right back where we are right now.

BUT if Sony and Microsoft hadn't released an HD console this generation, it could've gone either way. Name brand and a cheaper price point might've worked to their benefit, or it might have just driven consumers even further towards the Wii's innovation. It's hard to say, really.

I loved RE4: Wii because the controls stopped making the game feel like the difficulty arose from the crappy analogue stick aiming.

Once that was out of the way, the game became enjoyable to the point that I was willing to play it through again without question.

It made me realize just how much I HATE analogue aiming: unless you know how to twitch your thumb JUST right to aim the crosshair, it just doesn't work.

"I mean, c'mon, Viva Pinata, a game with massive marketing, didn't sell worth a damn to the "sophisticated" 360 audience, despite near-universal praise--is that a sign that 360 owners are a bunch of casual ignoramuses that can't get their heads around a 'gardening' sim? Of course not. So let's please stop trying to micro-analyze one game out of hundreds and using it as the poster child for why good, non-1st party, games can't sell on Wii. (Everyone frequenting this site knows this is nonsense, and yet some of you just can't let it go because it's the only scab you have left to pick at after all your other "Wii will phail1!!1" straw men arguments have been put to the torch.)" - exindguy on Boom Blocks

Wow i didn't know Umbrella Chronicles was doing this good.

I'd been saying for a long time that the titles on a system tend to cultivate the audience, as much or more than the other way around. Which is to say, Gears of War didn't just do well because the audience was there to recieve it, but because the game (and similar games like Halo before it) cultivated its own audience.

By far, the best example of this phenomenon is Resident Evil on Nintendo platforms. Why does Resident Evil sell so well on the Wii? It's a very violent third party shooter! Well, it just so happens to be the only franchise that put its major iteration on the Gamecube last generation.

In short, many third parties companies have spent the entirety of the last decade or more distancing themselves from Nintendo's platforms. How long has it been since Konami put a major franchise on a Nintendo home console? I honestly don't remember. Did they put anything on the N64? The Gamecube? Many of these companies have very specifically avoided Nintendo, and they've effectively managed to create a situation where the Nintendo faithful no longer have a cultivated taste for their games (and the casuals don't want them either, because all the traditional franchises are "hardcore" and don't suit their interests).

To be honest I think Wii will see a port in the future. Like a year after it comes out for 360/PS3. RE4/UC are doing great and will continue to do good. But if RE5 comes out than less sales go to RE4/UC. I bet they just want to give RE4/UC more time before releasing something that'll take away all their sales.

I want to see RE5 stay on the other consoles, but, then out of the cold dark hands of the devil comes.....RESIDENT EVIL 5: WII EDITION!!!!!111. That would be awesome. Same game, just built on Wii hardware so, not as flashy, but controls better.

I don't think there will be a Wii version of RE5. It would suffer too much.

What I think will happen, is that Capcom will make a unique RE game for the Wii, using a refined RE4 engine.

Funny you say that, because every time me and my brother start talking about RE5 and how great it will be, the conversation always ends on this downer:"...it's just gonna suck having to go back to analog aiming". RE4 on the Wii has spoiled a lot of people, so it's natural that people really want RE5 on the Wii. How about a unique version of RE5?

The "would rather have a RE built for the Wii, not a downgraded port" argument ran out of steam a long time ago. There will be drawbacks if the game is made for the Wii, but there is also drawbacks with the game being on the 360 and PS3. I don't see how a game is a "downgrade" if it's gaining something as well as losing something. Seems like it would even out to me.

It's not like everyone wants RE5 chopped to pieces to run on the Wii, they want a modified version built for the Wii. I honestly don't care if the draw distance isn't 3 miles, if there are 15 enemies on screen instead of 40, or if Chris has 3 trillion polygons on his earlobe or not. Making a Wii version would just require the devs to work within the limits of the system, just like they do with the 360 and PS3, and just like people have been doing since the first videogames were made.

Besides, it's not like someone is losing some big exclusive; we've known it was multi-plat for ages.

How would it suffer exactly? SD graphics instead of HD graphics and what?

The HD consoles are technically capable of running games with larger areas or more moving objects than the Wii or the last gen consoles, but so far we have maybe ten titles that have taken of this, and RE5 doesn't look like it'll be one of them.

i have to agree here, if you watch the trailers RE5 looks exactly like RE4 with better graphics.  It looks like some of the animations weren't even changed at all.  It could easily be done on the wii, but I just don't think they should do it.  Make the game how it was meant to be and leave it at that.  I'm sure we'll be seeing more RE on Wii pretty soon.
