Forums - Nintendo - Resident Evil's success on the Wii so far

i'd only like to see a Wii version of RE5 if it's done properley. i wouldnt want capcom to look at the 360/ps3 versions and say "what can we take away so that it would work well enough on Wii?". what would need to happen is well here's the designs and story of RE5 let's make a Wii version from the ground up and pack it in with as much as possible.

anyways, i'm not holding my breath for a Wii version. i'd like one but it's something no one can be positive about.

if we do get more RE titles on Wii, these are what i want Capcom to consider.

- an RE4 style title that follows Billy Coen after RE0.

- a compiled remake of RE 2 and 3. think about it. follow through the stories of Leon, Sarah and Jill. return of the character swapping feature from RE0 when characters run into each other and team up. there could also be the possibility of online co-op. plus the whole any action in one story will affect something in a different characters story. all creating an impressive remake with plenty of depth and replayability.

- RE: ______ Chronicles. could follow the story of RE2, 4 and 5 (maybe).

anyhoo the franchise has many possible paths to follow. either following the exploits of an old character, creating a new character facing a new threat, a remake of an old story or another light gun shooter.

I'm sure there'll be a follow up to RE:4 on the wii. It sounds like a garunteed money spinner.

i dunno why people want RE5 so badly, it would be much better if Capcom made a game ground up for the Wii.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Okey Dokey: "it just wouldn't be the same. could you imagine playing re4 on the N64?"

No, I recently stated that I couldn't play RE2 anymore because the graphics were too bad.
But the difference between N64/Cube are way smaller than between Wii/PS360. And before everyone starts naming stats and figures: I mean in realism. The step from RE (1) from PSone to Gamecube was amazing. If Capcom would release RE again for PS360, the quality increase wouldn't be that big, because on Gamecube Jill/Chris looked human unlike the Psone version.

Of course Capcom is making a Wii-Specific RE game. Frankly I think we might see it before we see RE5 for PS360. There is a chance that it might be RE5. It could hit the Wii first and then the HD versions could come out with "New/Exclusive content". This would make a downsize port more attractive.

As for sales UC will easily pass 1 million, particularly as millions more zappers find their ways into homes and people look for more shooters.

I am going to make a prediction that RE4 will keep selling for years on the Wii, popping up on holidays and with the release of more in the RE series. It will even outsell the PS2 version. Just give it a couple years.

And I too have a fondness for the old control style. But only in a nostalgic way. I remember the shock and excitment I have blocked out the pain and suffering. Ater Onimusha I swore I would never buy a game with that awkward of a camera again.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

*naznatips is exempt

So are there even any screens from RE5 yet?

I did miss the slow pace, puzzle solving, edge of your seat, playing in pitch black at midnight kind of atmosphere when playing RE4 (I still have fond memories of screaming like a girl and throwing the controller accross the rom) when the dogs jumped through the window in Resident Evil and even brought a smile to my face when that scene appeared in REUC but I think that could be captured without horrific controls.

Those people that think they're perfect give a bad reputation to us who are...

"With the DS, it's fair to say that Nintendo stepped out of the technical race and went for a feature differentiation with the touch screen, but I fear that it won't have a lasting impact beyond that of a gimmick - so the long-lasting appeal of the platform is at peril as a direct result of that." - Phil Harrison, Sony

Oh god, another RE for Wii thread... this won't end well...

In a perfect world that would be preferable, but realistically it would probably end up as a cheap spinoff done by a second rate development team. We can see from Umbrella Chronicles that such a game can still be good, but does anyone seriously think RE5 won't be better? The people who started the Resident Evil franchise and returned to make it great again with RE4 might have left the company, but Capcom is still a top notch developer and won't screw up their biggest franchise.

Namco decided we didn't want Soul Calibur 4 (although a port is still possible), but rather a new Wii exclusive based on the Soul Calibur IP. Do I have to tell you how well that went?

dschumm has an excellent point with Umbrella Chronicles and the zapper btw. There will soon be over a million Wii owners with zappers, and they're going to check what other games support their new peripheral. So far there are only 3 notable lightgun games on the Wii, and UC is clearly the best out of them.
