Forums - Sony - Reviewers divided on American version of PlayStation Vita

The thing is, if you look at the gizomodo review, it is from the perspective of a gadget site, not a gaming site, so take that into consideration. (and from a hardware perspective, nobody is arguing about its quality)

I think some people seem to be missing that Sony have thought this through, and aren't really trying to replace your mobile. The PSP came before every single phone was an MP4 player and internet browser, so those features remain in place just to not make it feel like a step backward. They haven't really been developed though, as Sony know that people do have their phones with them, and so the PSVita is not designed to be with you at all times. They decided not to go that route, so they could make the screen bigger

But to me what is most important is those lovely looking dual analogue sticks, we just have to hope that the games do keep coming....

Who buys a phone or tablet for gaming?

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

This does not surprise me- It seems to be a very love-hate affair, and, for most people, the games library is lacking (with Uncharted being the only real 'must-have' currently) that a lot will wait for either more games or a price cut.

Long-term success will come with a constant stream of quality titles. It's whether or not Sony is commited to do that.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

The price ist far to high. Gamers, even Core-gamers, get a similar graphical experience (look at Resident Evil!) on the 3DS.

People generally don't. But that's not the point, the point is that everyone has a phone anyway, including many smartphones, and if they already have a portable device that can play games, it's harder to justify buying a dedicated system.

The floor price of Vita is what? $249 + $25 memory + $40 game = $314 and the typical price paid to get out of the shop is probably $249-299 + $40 memory + 2* $40 games = $369-$419

3DS floor price is $199 for a bundle or $209 with a game of your choice, $239/249 probably being more typical, also backwards compatible.

iPod touch 4G $189 with $20 iTunes card = $209, also backwards compatible.

Problem: To make the Vita a good game machine they turned it into a kinda sucky tablet. Also the floor price makes it less appealing than a 3DS and iPod Touch especially when you consider the value of the 'free' games from backwards compatibility and cheap titles available.
