It's very close after only the first month of 2012, but PS3 version has the slimmest of leads over 360 version, though the mere fact of a YTD lead of any amount (even a within MoE lead) on PS3 for this game franchise is unprecedented. While sales differentials for CoD games have been narrowing over the years, to think that PS3 version would ever outsell 360 version liftetime is stretching credulity a tad. Though looking at the long terms sales pattern and seeing PS3 version creeping up on 360 version will make for an interesting guessing game for how much the gap may narrow over the course of the year. Clearly one thing this phenomenon reflects is that the FPS bug has spread throughout the world and it's no longer largely a craze in the Xbox360 dominated (over PS3) markets

For 2011 Black Ops on 360 outsold PS3 by slightly over 200k. I don't think MW3 on PS3 can outsell MW3 on 360 by anywhere near that amount this year, so in reality even though PS3 version might sell more in 2012 the decrease in LTD gap will be negligible.

Interestingly BF3 on PS3 has a substantial lead over 360 version in 2012 YTD. If that pattern continues then the gap for that game will shrink markedly given the LTD gap there is aonly a smidge over 800K. That gap could be halved.

Will there ever be a multi-million selling FPS that sells more on PS3 than 360?

Why and I making this thread? I don't even like FPS. Oh well, I just thought it was an interesting sales figure to take note of.

As a PC/PS3 gamer, I think it's doubtful. I think Sony's spread out over too many 1st and 2nd party IP to devote much time and money developing hype for a 3rd party game. I don't honestly care about CoD sales, myself. It's going to sell a ton of units and Activision will reap hundreds of millions in profits. As a hardware manufacturer with a large stable of developer's, Sony's primary goal is to bolster interest in their own IP, additionally, Activision has a very very strong relationship with Microsoft and aren't about to abandon that, to truly push any game on the PS3 over the 360.

So, no, I really don't think it'll happen, myself. Of course, I quite honestly don't care. I'd much rather see their first party titles selling more units, just because they're typically of higher quality, and more fun to play (Not a fan of the MW series, so I realize this is just my opinion...though quality can't be argued).

It amazes me that a franchise that many associate with the 360 is that close in regards to sales ratio wise with the PS3. Just look at ME3s preorder numbers for comparison, massive difference between the PS3 and 360 version.

Don't think so, the X360 version is likely to pull away a little bit later in the year.

COD is no way specifically associated with any console in particular, it's a shooter, everyone is aware that it's available on everything by now (Seeing as it's 5th iteration in the last 5 years), what CAN be the biggest selling factor is the lack of COD limited edition bundle for PS3.

It's still a bitch of a price in UK, once the price drops in Europe we'll see which way it'll likely to swing, but this topic is a bit useless binary :.

No, doesn't make any sense for it to be above.

Rol should post 'articles' on N4G. He could really stir some things up.

Will this be the year we don't talk about CoD or MW?

A very good idea and one worth considering seriously. That place is all kinds of fucked up so I'd expect amusing comments

After thinking about it, I don't think it would be a good idea. On one hand, the meltdowns would be amusing, but on another hand, it could kill VGChart'z reputation in a matter of seconds.
