Forums - Gaming - Epic Gives Samaritan Demo Processing Requirement

People are expecting over 2 TFLOPS  from PS4/720 so that means they should be able to run it.
An AMD guy hinted that Wii U's GPU would be beyond 1TFLOP so that means it could run it scaled down at 720.

Kinda surprising really, I thought Samaritan's requirements would be alot steeper.

The demo was only running at 30fps? Seemed smoother than that.

It seemed smoother because it had great animations, that's one of the many reasons why you shouldn't trust tech demos, animations can only be done manually, you'll never see animations as good as those on an actual game (except for cutscenes), it would be too expansive.

I wouldn't worry too much about the TFLOP's number, for reference the PS3 can do ~1.8 TFLOP's (though you won't see more than 500 - 800 GFLOP's in most games simply because the extra operations aren't needed / its more efficient to simple operations, rather than floating point operations).

So the Samaritan demo is equal to 250,000 1993 Dooms ;)

I highly doubt we'll see games looking as good as that demo next gen (on consoles), maybe 5-6 years into it we might start to see stuff on-par. But I think launch titles will look as good as BF3 and possibly Metro at high settings. Which is more than enough for me. Hopefully the lowest resolutions we see will be full 720p and games will be running at either 30-45 fps with motion blur or 60 fps.

Interesting... Looking forward to the big three revealings this E3

Excellent, I hope next-gen consoles are a bit more powerful than that because I want games to have better graphics than the Samaritan Tech demo. I'll be fine with Samaritan Tech demo graphics for a few months but then I'll want something better xD.

Release Final Fantasy Versus XIII nowwwwwwwwww!!! lol :P

a x10 increase over 360 wouldn't be surprising to me for next gen. when consoles are released they are usually on par with high end PCs with the exception of nintendo consoles. I don't think games will look as good as the demo simply because the development cost would most likely be huge with the amount of work to make a game like that.
however PC quality will come to console easy.

You - you realize that the Wii is the only Nintendo console, out of five of them, that wasn't seriously pushing the cutting edge of graphics tech when it came out?
