Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 720 'console' may actually be a TV?

Absolutely not going to happen, the Next-Box will be a console, just like the 360 is.

Cloud gaming won't be the norm for another 10 years at least. This is not going to happen. In 10 years? Maybe it could be a good idea, having many different sizes and costs for your gaming platform. But why would I buy another TV when I've got a great one already? A system that can work with your existing TV is better. An onlive hub/xbox cloud that plugs into your TV through HDMI would be much better.

just wow

an option that is a nextbox/tv combo... sure why not.

but an only tv option is ludicrous...tv's are too expensive to be upgraded frequently. no one will throwing out a perfectly good tv for a console tv and the upgrade cycle is too long to be an effective means of selling their new gaming/media device.

...man, and i thought some of the pre-wiiU rumors were bad. MS is getting the dumbest of the dumb ideas thrown out there.

Seems unlikely. They might have to eventually but right now that would bring them into huge conflict with Samsung, etc. and likely get the major electronics retailers to push back against them.

What I could imagine - somewhat like Mobile phones and their OS, is a Samsung TV with included MS console. Anything other than a partnership would put MS into a competition with HW vendors I doubt it would want.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Highly doubt it since they've never even made TVs before.

Pretty funny though how Nintendo (assuming Microsoft actually go through with this) goes the other way and makes a console that doesn't even require a TV... And to add to the absurdity, you'd also be able to play your Wii U/PS4 on your 720!!!

I just changed my mind from "highly doubt" to "definitely not" lol.

Unlikely, for the reason of the size alone.

What if you want a bigger TV? What if you don't have space for the predefined sizes?

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles

Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped:  the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA

bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.

Id like it if MS announced that it would be bundled with tvs.

That would make more sense.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Everytime someone calls the next Xbox console the "Xbox 720", a kitten and a baby seal die a slow, gruesome death.

hmm...

might actually not be a bad idea.

I mean ofcourse it can't be a TV from MS, but an added feature of new TVs from various manufacturers - those TVs probably need to have a certain processing power to decode the video stream fast enough and usb plugs and wireless connection for the controllers/Kinect etc.

So, it would be a service similar to onlive, but the games could be developed for a very specific PC configuration MS choses to stream the games from to users.

That might not be the way we game next console gen, but I can see it being a possible future.
