Forums - Sales - Xbox 360 tops Wii and PS3 for 1st time in yearly global sales

They didn't brag about it because in the grand scheme of things they have nothing to brag about. 4 consecutive years of hemorrhaging money as a whole will do that to you.

Edit: They were second last year, so why brag about that?

If sony won, why aren't they touting it from the top of a mountain like they normally would? They would normally be stuffing it down investor's throats to try and recoup some of their company's value which has dwindled 82% the past decade.

Sony didn't 'brag' about it last year either when they not only outsold microsoft they also outshipped them as well.

They didn't outsell Wii.  So why brag about being 2nd place?

BOOM!  FACE KICK!

They're second to the 3ds this year........ why brag about it.

What your saying really can't be debunked. Unless Sony really didn't sell more PS3's to users this year it was the most popular console  to the consumers bar 3DS .  Sure MS shipped more but people wanted the PS3 more in the world. (Unless it didn't sell more to consumers.)

When I think sales I think retail to customers. Who sold more to customers?

Because we are the consumers. But for the big 3, their sales means sold to the channels. If X360 was sold more than PS3 to the channels, MS will claim their sales was better than SONY.

It is just about how you consider the meaning of sales and which side you are standing, consumers or manufacturers.

Microsoft overshipped more then 1 million 360s in december. Otherwise the lead would be below 2.8 instead of 3.8 million.

So for those who say Sony won, the following scenario must happen between Jan - March:

Xbox 360 shipments must be under 1 million (someone said 1.5 - 1.7 was the norm for Q4). So we are looking at 600k - 800k shipments for the 3 months (norm - 900k for Sony win). Last year MS shipped 2.7 consoles, but only due to undershipping in the previous Q.

On the other hand Sony needs to ship about 2.1 million consoles, because that is their norm for this Q.

--> If this scenario does not happen, it is perfectly clear that MS won 2011.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Because Wii trumped them all.

You don't understand the significance they'd gain from this by claiming that the PS3 was the "best selling home console", again spinning the PR in a positive way that would put them in a good spotlight with the investors, after all. The company has been bleeding money, and have potentially missed out on about $400m profits due to the price cut of PS3, which could have brought their losses down from the abysmal 2bil reported.

They didn't claim it, since likely they didn't win jack shit. I respect this site and all, but there is a certain % inaccuracy, which makes this just too close too call, let alone extrapolation of quite a lot of hard-to-track regions, your pig headness on the matter in the last two threads I've read is quite interesting, are you the new Sony CEO by any chance?

Because funnily enough, even the hardcore of Sony fans have hidden their faces from sales threads due to the reasonably abysmal shipment number (considerably less than they've expected).

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

MS has at least shipped already 300K Console as of January 9th since they said OVER 66M Console in CES and only shipped 65.8 at December 31st.

Because they aren't Microsoft.

The bottom line is, PS3 won in sales, Xbox 360 won in shipments.

Both fanboy camps are trying to say they won and that sales are more important than shipments, or vice versa. In the end, it was technically a victory for SONY as they sold more consoles, but in the business world, it's the number of units shipped that matters, and the number of units shipped can be proven, so Microsoft are not in the wrong for claiming that they won.

Damn you Spurge for bringing this back up.
