Forums - Sony - Sony Patents Controller Like Wii U.....Sony Looking Over Nintendo's Shoulder Again!

Sony isn't looking over Nintendo's shoulder on this. PSP was doing remote play before the Wii U was a concept and The PS Vita will be out before the Wii U hits and Sony could apply the Wii U controller idea to the Vita/PS3.

I'm tired of seeing people claim Sony doesn't innovate. Sony is never given the credit for doing something different.

I know right lol, up untill PS3s arrival Sony was known as the industry's innovator, then with all the PS3 bashing from the media and Sony revealing the Move people started crying about Sony copying Nintendo. Even the Move concept was shown a decade ago:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PtoxKDcCXc

Sony invented the dual analog

Sony invented the Move/Wiimote and now the WiiU/Vita+PS3 concept

That video you posted only has the glowing bulb with it. Okay, so Move actually uses that bulb. Congrats Sony!

The thing is Sony didn't come up with the concept of the remote style controller nor did they come up with the nunchuk concept. Where is that video you posted did Sony roll those out? Oh, that's right, they didn't! It's just the bulb used in conjunction with PS Eye (and of course using a Dual Shock).

You can say all the live-long-day that Sony was bound to come to it eventually without Nintendo, but without Wii, Sony wouldn't have come out with the same exact concept!

OT: I really don't think this constitutes Sony copying Nintendo again. I'm sure we all remember Sony coming out with the same concept for the PSP with the PS3. Even though it never really got traction, it was there long ago and way before Wii U was announced.

without nintendo sony has no playstation. what do you think the psone is really? the rejected snes cd rom system that nintendo rejected because of load times. sony just took the snes hardware added more power and kept the cd rom part of it and bingo there is the ps one.

oh wait i cant say that cause of the sony bias on this site cause we all know sony doesnt copy and nintendo is always DOOMED

Use facts next time please. Nintendo turned down the Sony Cd based system not because of load times but because the contract Nintendo SIGNED would give Sony the rights to all games released on the CD based console so Nintendo's Hiroshi Yamauchi secretly cancelled the agreement right before it was to be announced and instead announced that they were to partner with Phillips and thus the CD-i Zelda games were born, Zelda games that were heavily criticized for not just jerky framerate and bad controls, but really long load times.

Sony is becoming really lame lately....

- ModNation is a Mario Kart copy
- this

and much more i can't remember....

Playstation Network --> Nintendo Network

Analog stick on PSP --> Analog stick on 3DS

2 analog sticks on Vita --> 3DS add-on with 2nd analog created for 3DS

Sony making their console a multimedia center from the get go --> Microsoft makes 360 into more of a media center and now nintendo following suit

Sony puts 2 analog sticks on controller --> Nintendo's next console (GC) gets 2nd analog stick, although cleverly disguised

Sony created analog based controls before N64 even released and released dual analog based controls a mere week after N64 launch

Sony touts PSVita ability to stream PS3 games to Vita and displays it for all to see --> Nintendo unveils the Wii U

PSP was able to wirelessly stream Lair on PS3 since 2007. Haven't tried many other titles though, but that was 5 years ago.

Sony Smash Bros. isn't even confirmed.

Let us hope 3DS doesn't now get a back touchpad add-on.

Oh yeah, the classic controller pro also looks so much like something I have seen before, just can't remember what it was...

@Bolded

Nintendo released that most likely to compete with Sony but its nothing new. Really all Sony did was take a controller and add a touch pad to the back and a touch screen, again nothing new. The Wii U was in development since I think 2008 and later revealed to be Code Named: Project Cafe. Nintendo had that idea for awhile even before Sony released anything about a new handheld.

Either way, this business always has "copies." It just seems Nintendo gets "copied" off of more often.

Well good going OP, you made a thread with an incorrect title without looking into the facts, and then when it was proven incorrect you just left it.

Now we have a thread just packed to the brim with people using an incorrect OP to talk about how Sony copies everything.....sigh.

That is like saying "Really all Nintendo did was add an analog nub and a 3D screen" or "All Nintendo did was add a 2nd screen with touch, nothing new" since we already had PDA's, but you know that wasn't the case, they were instead touted as great innovators because they tried something new.

How many devices you know of that have front and rear touch functionality? If your answer is "none" then how is it "again nothing new"?

Also if you look back you will realize that Nintendo copies just as much, especially since most of their "creations" are enhancements to already existing tech, just like everyone else.

I also agree that this is common practice in business which is why I said before that this kind of argument is so stupid.
