Forums - Sales - THQ details full extent of uDraw disaster, 1.4m unsold units adds up to $100m revenue shortfall

Can't they even sell those 1.4m Udraws at a marked down price? I'm sure they'd at least shift them at 10 bucks a pop ...

Kinect bundles

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

I don't think retailers would take more uDraws, not even for that price. There's no consumer demand and that thing takes up more shelf space than regular games.

They'll have to sell them through their own website or something then, that or give them away, that or we have another E.T fiasco.

I won't lie, that'd be a sight to behold.

Just goes to show how divided last generation was. Wii had its own failures, but so too did the others.

Will be interesting to see the sales of Skylanders, split between the 3.

Official figures from Activision i guess won't be happening anytime soon.

what i really goes to show is that, like i've said for years now, the wii audience and the HD audience is fundamentally different.  putting uDraw on the ps360 is as bad of an idea as putting "core" games on the wii.

Udraw doesn't even use Kinect?

I imagine the damage would have been less severe had they launched simultaneously across all three platforms, for it was clear that the hype they generated for uDraw was just that, and the device had little lasting appeal

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

It was a silly idea IMHO. That think had limited appeal in the first place. And they try to put that on HDs?? No one cares about that crap on those systems. I dont know why they did it, only thing i can think of is that the WIi version didnt do as well as they hoped and they wanted to recoup some losses, but why make so much?? THey could not have thought that that much people were interested

The Wii version did much better than they expected and thus contributed positively to THQ's bottom line last year.

THQ likes to believe that if they can make money on the Wii, then they can make even more money on the HD consoles, because their audiences spend more money on gaming. Too bad for them that they didn't realize that uDraw was a fad with that kind of software support.

Or they just seriously overestimated the appeal Udraw would have on the PS360 audience, but it did need more software

this except for the "core" games on Wii part

That's karma. THQ called the Wii a fad while it was themselves who had one on their hands. This is payback for Deadly Creatures. The only bad thing about this is that the people who deserve to be punished still get to keep their jobs. For a while.

Not even. A fad is something that enjoys short-lived popularity. uDraw was never popular to begin with...

I know, but it could certainly do with bundle regardless.

I remember seeing Pictionary on game shelves wondering how the hell I would play that... no idea it was related to Udraw devices - they should have had some bundles with it.
