Yesterday, Capcom announced that the Resident Evil 6 demo would be available early for purchasers of Dragon’s Dogma. Xbox 360 gamers can download it on July 3, while PS3 players will be waiting until September 4. Why the two-month gap? “Business,” of course.

After covering yesterday’s development, we reached out to Capcom for a comment on the gulf between the Xbox 360 and PS3 early access dates. A representative offered this response:

This was a strategic business decision.

The dream would be that the millions of Call of Duty fans that are enjoying these fast-paced online games are attracted to this Resident Evil.

Is this Capcom’s way of imitating Call of Duty? Giving Xbox 360 priority treatment just like Modern Warfare 3, whose DLC drops weeks early on Microsoft’s console? Surely there’s a way of embracing the action audience without pushing PlayStation 3 to the side. Sony’s system did launch the series after all.

Dragon’s Dogma hits shelves on May 22. For those who don’t pick up the action-RPG, the Resident Evil 6 demo will be available on September 20, for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

seriously, wtf? 1,5m more copies of RE5 were sold on PS3 compared to VGC's 360 number... i mean, i dont care, i do have access to a 360, but really, i dont get them on this one.

edit: Oh and by the way, Dragons Dogma will still end up selling more on PS3. (my prediction. deal with it.) .. and instead of making it 360 exclusivr, why not throwing in the DEMO for both versions of the game, + some goodies for RE6?.. capcom.. please, hire me to kill the guys in charge for that BS.

Same with the Battlefield exclusive content deal with PS3, I guess companies want to bolster sales of the lesser selling version.

yeah i guess, but why they do this is beyond me, really. i guess pretty much everyone is with me on this, but i really have to ask why the eff-kay they do this, i mean... why would you shoot the majority of your customers in the foot? i mean, if it would be for exclusive content, yes, it could be a nice boost in sales, but a damn Demo that will be available to play before the Retail Version of it is out just doesnt make any sense from a business perspective, there are maybe a thousand guys who will buy Dogma because of this, but in exchange, pretty much everyone else will just facepalm on this. let this be a business decision, but its a damn stupid one. (imo)

First, Capcom promises that they will reinvent the survivor horror genre with RE6. Then they show as a RE meets CoD game. Now this? Come on capcom, I simply want RE to be RE, and not another wannabe in the shooter king race :|

this is just garbage, i guess crapcom forgot which console brand BUILT the RE fanbase

idrc bout the demo i will most certainly buy RE6 on PS b/c thats what i bought RE5 and all of there past RE games on, aswell as building up my trophy progress i dont have many games on the x-box. this just might mean that the actual game like with RE5 will be superior on the X-box platform

no not really the same, EA has always had deals with PS brand this gen like with NFS and Deadspace
