Haha idk I don't trust premature confirmations. They wouldn't say there will be a new xbox at E3 and launch later this year as it would only kill 360 sales right now and so on and so on. But yeah i know im wrong :P

Another reason is because I don't think there would be announcement prior to E3 and no event likely after E3 either. Gamescom and TGS are more Playstation centric imo. Maybe they will announce on MTV again

Yeah the Japanese Events seem to be where Sony likes to announce things.

Teasing it is fine, but showcasing a full fledged console (which atm is impossible imo) would hurt their sales, but I'm pretty sure majority of people wouldnt wait another year considering the price difference of the consoles would be when the next gen systems come out.

Expect a price cut from both systems to be announced sometime this year I am pretty sure, I believe the last holiday season was a test to see how sales would go if a price cut were to occur.

The problem is...these reveals at E3 etc. only really get attention from "hardcore" games and id say generally people who have an interest in gaming. Its not like casuals all saw MS reveal kinect at E3 and said they wana buy it, im pretty sure they saw tv ads, and in store displays etc. So a tease or a reveal like this is really only meant for or should i say it will only get the attention of a certain consumer.

For both MS and Sony this can be a problem since that exact consumer is their target consumer, less so for MS now that they have kinect. My point is a tease or even a reveal will be known throughout the gaming community. And potential buyers that fit this demographic might decide to hold out a year or two. I think thats what MS and sony (definately Sony) want to avoid.

It could be argued that most hardcore gamers already own a current gen console though. 

Yeah you probably right...but i know a lot of gamers who have yet to make the move over to a HD console, this is probably because im in a 3rd world country though :/

Anyways i stil think a reveal or tease will have some sort of affect on sales, similar to a rumoured price cut...people definately hold out. So yeah might not be a major effect but an effect none the less. And since sales are already on the decline for 2012, the HD manufacturers would want every sale they can get.
