Forums - Gaming - Retro possibly working on star fox wii u

the latest edition of the Official Nintendo Magazine has a in-depth feature titled ’A Brief History Of Retro Studios’. Towards the end of the feature they move onto what they think the studio behind the Metroid Prime games and Donkey Kong Country Returns are working on next, ending with these two sentences…

“While some suggest this new project is likely to be a return to the Metroid franchise, we’d love to see another Nintendo hero get the retro stamp of excellence. After all, having rolled out the barrels for Donkey Kong, perhaps it’s time Retro pulled off a barrel roll of a different kind.”

I would prefer a more open star fox kinda. Give him access to alot of flight and land based gun-play combat and let him explore idk i liked his shooting alot in assault it was really fun. him just flying his arwing wouldn't make for a long game to me idk though.

"... perhaps it’s time Retro pulled off a barrel roll of a different kind.”

Not sure if that's supposed to be a hint from the informed or just their own wishful thinking.  I'm sure they'd do a great job with Starfox, but personally I hope it's something else instead (Starfox just doesn't excite me as much as Metroid or DKC).

Being that Zelda sells best in America and Retro is located here as well, I'd love to see them try their hand at that.  Some might say that it would never happen or that it wouldn't be a good match, but if someone had told me twelve years ago that a Texas based company was making a first-person Metroid game I would have called them crazy for thinking it, and declared the results disastrous.  Little did I know that Prime would end up being my favorite Metroid and one of my favorite games of all time.

I, for one, want Retro to make a starfox game in the style of Freelancer.

As much as I'd like to see Retro make a new Starfox game, I'd rather them save the Metroid series first. I still can't get over how bad Other M was.

i sure hope not! i want a new Metroid but I'm not getting my hopes up as i think it's not the game they are making now

but at the same time deep inside i am....

Star fox is an "ok" franchise nothing that big... for me at least. adventures was the last Fox game i bought

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

One of the best things Retro did with the Metroid Prime series was to take "Traditional" Metroid gameplay elements and integrate them in a game that was drastically different from the original games ...

I would love to see what they could do with a Starfox Adventures game, and would hope that they could seemlessly integrate the arcade space-fighter combat with an adventure game.

Don't forget that Nintendo has had star fox on the agenda for a while. No wii appearance and they want the Smash bros. director to use the Star Fox brand before he chose Kid Icarus.

Plus you have to think what games will showcase the new Wii U technology off the most. A flying game like Star fox I think could utilize the gyroscope a lot more than a Metroid game

Prior to DKR I would have said that would be a bad fit, but they really showed their range. Doesn't matter much to me, though, whatever N IP they are working on, it will be spectacular.

I actually liked metroid other m and dkc returns . -prime was good to . would be awsome to not only see starfox on wii u . but

also F-Zero and Wave race would benefit most out of the power as they were the ones that showed off the amazing graphics infact I could not tell if F-Zero was a early xbox360 launch game or a Game cube game . it was that good looking . and wave race set standards for the water based games of the time

also 1080 to . where has that series gone.    would definitally benefit from the powerful wii  u

Imagine an avalanche  how great that would look chasing you down the side of the mountain  . heck the mountains alone would look life like .
