but whatever we'll just have to wait a few more weeks to see

LOL, it seems for some people the rumours are only believable if the Wii U is said to be barely more powerful or equal to current gen.

Oh, and can I get this supposed rumour you remember from a few weeks back with a source sayingit was only 1.5 times more powerful than PS3?

Without any hard facts, people feel free to pretty much pull whatever numbers they want out of their asses.

In regards to the Wii U GPU, about the only "fact" I'm inclined to believe is that it will have an R700 based GPU, most likely a modified RV770 which was the commercial equivalent of the ATI's HD4850 from mid 2008. That GPU is easily more powerful than a factor of 1.5 over the RSX in the PS3.

I have seen a few rumors that claimed the Wii U's CPU was only 1.5 times as powerful as the Cell processor but without more details that is kind of a useless comparison ...

When it comes to theoritical processing power and simple benchmarks the Cell processor is one of the most powerful processors available, when it comes to real world in-game performance the Cell processor is surpassed by outdated hardware. The answer to the question "under what conditions is the Wii U's CPU only 50% more powerful than the Cell?" could imply that the Wii U's CPU is relatively unimpressive or remarkably powerful.

Beyond this, most games are not CPU bound so a dramatic increase in processing power on the CPU isn't really much of a benefit at this point in time.

Fo Sho.  And there is also only so much co-processing that can be done, so multiple cores only nets you so much (with a big chunk of the per frame procesing being offloaded to the graphics pipeline.

I am surprised no new consoles are being created with dedicated AI processors.  With efficient and streamlined graphics processing being around for decades now, the limitation on the graphics is bumping up on to the "what the developer has the talent and budget to do" level.  AI is approaching the point where it could use dedicated hardware, as good AI can be extremely computationally expensive, and crappy AI can kill any realism graphics provide.

Rumors, I declare them all rumors!!!

I was about to post exactly that

Beat you to the punch =D

Here's what the source of this story has come out and said.

"We were aware that the "algebra" of both sources doesn't match.

A little history on this:

Develop has to cross-reference all unverified claims made to us before publishing articles, to avoid issuing inaccurate information.

We took these steps when revealing the Wii U pad uses a camera system: http://www.develop-online.net/news/37732/Develop-Source-Wii-2-pad-adds-camera-system

And we did so when explaining that Wii U can support two tablet controllers: http://www.develop-online.net/news/39077/Nintendo-working-on-Wii-U-support-for-two-tablets

And when we said Sony Studios were working on PlayStation 4 projects: http://www.develop-online.net/news/38916/Sony-studios-begin-PlayStation-4-projects

However, when we got the information about Wii U being "twice as powerful as Xbox 360" - in December last year - we were not able to verify the claim.

It was only when IGN's sources expressed that Wii U is far more powerful than the Xbox 360 that we were comfortable in publishing the story.

This was why IGN's sources are referenced in the article, because despite the "algebra" being out, both point towards the same thing.

We felt our readers in the development community would find this useful.

Hope that's cleared things up. If you have any other questions just ask.

Rob"

December was when the debunked specs were flying around so it seems that they're reporting what was debunked, either that or this is a big cop out as other forums have put it.

Now you understand why I put a big confused face! ;) They needed to clarify the confusion with a letter it was so bad lol

Gonna be a lot on the line for console release cycles next generation.

The real question is how the Wii U relates in power to the X720/PS4. If the Wii U is significantly less powerful than the 720, its going to crash in comparison to the 720 or Wii hardware sales. It will have no momentum for it, as it won't bring anything new to the table like the Wii offered.

I'd anticipate 50 million hardware sales during the next generation unless Nintendo really does something amazing.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Arnie always looks confused whether he's shooting people or other people's wives.

i never said i believed in any of the rumours regarding power so far so its pretty stupid for you to imply so

here is the rumour is was reffering to :

The point is that picture didn't really get the initial point across due to it being him, he always has that face on it's no different to if you posted a screen of him in commando.
