Technically, the Wii U is going to be a current generation console, not next gen.

But anyway, at the moment I am not likely to make the switch as soon as another console comes out.

Thats just ignorant. The WiiU runs a HD48xx series GPU at least 5 times faster than the Ps3. Since PC hardware hasnt gotten significantly faster in the last 2 years, even if the Ps4/Nextbox had Ati 6000 series GPU equivalents, the might be 20% more powerful than the WiiU at the most. Next gen is going to be an even closer playing field than the current gen and all 3 consoles will be 4-5x more powerful than the current HD offerings, allowing for every single game to run Full HD, with AA, and smoothly. The WiiU is definitely Next Gen. Why do people seem to think that because the Wii didn't have HD that it wasn't in the same generation as the Ps3/360? A generation is defined by the consoles that are competing for sales for any reasonable length of time.

Sorry about that. Fanboys make me mad.

Bahaha you fell for the classic Rol troll

I buy all systems so there is no switch for me to make. That being said, it's highly unlikely that I will lead with the PlayStation and wait several years before buying the other systems again.

I will buy next generation, however i think i will remain with nintendo and sony, passing on xbox once again. For me, they just dont have 1st party titles that excite me, im not a FPS type of player.

Unless DLC and online pass policies change, I'm probably not getting a next-gen system at all. Nintendo handles those things better but Nintendo's stuff always seems to cost more and I don't like Nintendo's first-party games so even that's out. It's very likely that I'll be gaming exclusively on PC next gen.

Year after 720 releases no doubt

Haha, I don't think you read the OP, Seece.

I think at least half of the posters didn't read the OP correctly.

I only figured it out after I voted "For Sure" wrongly in the poll.

haha, READ people! It's good for you

That's ... what I meant! Switching to PS3 a year after 720 releases, yeah

depends on the SW releases on launch

i usually buy 6 months - 1 year after launch, the only thing that i worry bout is buying the early version of the console it seem that ive always had issues with em failing, every gen after the 4th i had to rebuy my main console at least once

i want to try to only buy one manufacture too i still cant do this it seem theres always that 1-2 games on another console that i have to play

This is just amusing considering everyone knows Rol is just about the biggest Nintendo "fanboy" on VGC.

And the RV770 GPU that is reportedly being used in the Wii U dates back to mid 2008. Most likely the rough equivalent of a custom HD 4850. By the time the Wii U is commercially in available in late 2012, it will be almost 4 year old GPU technology.

No one's even speculating what either the Xbox 3 or PS4 will be using, so this "20%" number that I'm assuming you pulled blindly out of a hat is not only a guestimate, but in all likelihood, a ridiculously low ball one.

Rol was most likely joking (if so, congrats; you just got Rol'd). If not, take it to mean that the specs on the Wii U make it more like a Gen 7.5 console, much like the Wii was essentially Gen 6.5 hardware.

Even if someone felt inclined to release an all new 8 bit console in 2012, that wouldn't make it Gen 8 hardware.

Damn i got trolled haha. Either way, the reason i pulled the random 20% number out of my hat, which is probably fairly accurate, is because hardware simply hasn't advanced a great deal since the HD48xx series. Yes its gotten a little faster, but the main selling points now are stuff like Eye Infinity and DX11.1. Assuming it takes 3 years or so to pick a GPU, customise it, build archecture around it, test it, tweak it, build a dev kit for it, talk to 3rd parties about it, etc etc, then the Ps4/Nextbox would be probably running HD6000 series equivalent GPUs and hardware at the very most, which is barely a 20% leap at the very most in real in-game performance. Since all games next gen are going to be running Full HD, smoothly, with AA, graphics are finally going to be left as a non-arument. Every game will look amazing on every console, the differences will be barely noticable, and the next-gen winner will be the one with the best 1st party content and online servies.

I dont see how this makes the WiiU a gen 7.5. All 3 consoles will be on an almost even playing field in terms of power and features. Graphically the leap from the Wii to WiiU will be gigantic, but the Ps3-Ps4 will be closer than the GC-Wii. Noticable, smoother, higher Res, but nothing overly dramatic. I'm really looking forward to a graphically even console war.
