Forums - Sales - can anyone actually confirm microsoft and their "win" of 2011

Microsoft not SOLD OVER 66 MILLION consoles too... so who knows?

Around the Network

ok really who shipped more? 360 or PS3?

Surely a few dedicated ppl here found this out?

Statistical tie?

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

when Microsoft say they won 2011. i assume they refer to america and uk hardware sales figures.

Don't know. They sold a ton of consoles in 2011, that's for sure. It won't matter much in another 12-18 months anyways as the new next-gen will be starting.

Well as far as I was aware Microsoft didn't win 2011 :/ I think all we can go on is the figures vgchartz have so that means Sony won.

Direct word for word quote from Ballmer. " Ten years later, we're the world sales leader in the last year for consoles which is exciting"

We know he isn't referring to shipments because that data for Nintendo and Sony isn't available yet.

Combine NPD, JAPAN, France hardware figures, Xbox 360 is way ahead.

Saw today on TV on QVC that Xbox 360 was the best selling platform in the UK for 2011

The onus is on the detractors to provide the rest of Europes hardware sales, from a verified independant source. (Not MS, Sony, Nintendo or VGChartz) to prove that the Xbox 360's lead from the US was less than the PS3's lead in Europe. If you can do that, then the PS3 won.

Nintendo and Sony remain silent on the matter.

They lied in that conference. They said they sold over 66million to consumers, when in fact they shipped 65.8.
We are on the VgChartz forum. I trust their data more especially after the lie Microsoft told at CES.

even though theirown vs  npd figures were off by almost 1 million? and that's just one platform

imagine how wrong they are for sales where figures are not reported monthly

Holy poo, didn't realize their was another thread about this. Just to clarify the results, so far everything is pointing to the PS3 winning 2011 by at least 600K. The only thing that will change this is if Nintendo's report shows the PS3 was greatly overtracked in EU (so far we were spot on in France) or the 360 was greatly undertracked (in France we were over by ~100K). Or if Sony reports they only shipped ~6 million consoles for Q4, which doesn't look likely.

@ denniswaterman

Obviously Ballmer was wrong with his 66+ million sold statement at CES. In fact, he would have been wrong if he was speaking about shipments too, as they only shipped a total of 65.8 million 360's by the end of the year.

i'm not saying that that figure is sold or shipped or whatever. In fact the 66m or 65.8 M has no bearing at all. I'm saying that he couldn't claimed they were the sales leader based on shipment data, because Ballmer wouldn't have Sony or Nintendo's shipment figures  as neither have released them. Not even to shareholders/

However he would have sales figures from NPD, Media Create, Canada (10 % of NPD) Chart Track and GFK for the rest of Europe. Mainly real genuine data from legitamate tracking firms and not the musings of vgc.

Since france is largley accounted for and I would say Xbox 360 took the UK by as much. It's largely down to the detractors to confirm that the rest of Europe  (I guess  Spain, Germany, Italy, Scandanavia etc) gave the PS3 a lead of 1.5-1.6 million to tie or 2.2 million to show this 600k lead you speak of.

Aside from VGChartz, which lets face it, can't even ge t the figures right for countries where we do get sales data on a regular basis, there's no legit data to prove this. I'm sure it could have happened, the onus is to prove that it did.

I mean Since Sony boasted of  a 400% sales increase for the week after the price drop in Australia, why are they silent when it comes to Global sales. Surely that's bigger fish mmm?
