Forums - Gaming - Catherine Sequel Speculation

I really don't want a new Catherine....The game felt simplified and the 'sex/triangle love' setting felt like a cheap cash in....Even J-games haters in my friendlist wanted to play it because of the setting X_X..

A new persona please...And not a fighter and a remake...

A sequel would be nice, was a very good game. My only big grip with the game is that they used a demon to designate liberty and an angel to designate order. That doesnt make sense outside religious thinking.

I would have agreed had I not played the game.

A cheap cash in can really only exist with a sub-par quality game, like x-blades or tomb raider. You have to think about it like a movie. Is having a specific actor a cash in or are they actually a good fit for the role? It's all contextual. A shitty X with an appealing Y is a cash in. Catherine is too much of an amazing X for the Y to be such a major factor.

What's simplified about the game?

So, I've been doing a lot of thinking on the game Catherine recently and decided to do some research.

First of all, Atlus has claimed Catherine as property material index. This would suggest a franchise as the only other games to carry this are etrian odyssey and Shin Megami Tensei.

Second, the opening to the game is called the golden playhouse, and it's likened to a series in which different "episodes" might be watched. I believe the hsot Trisha even says "today's story" as opposed to something more solitary, like, "this IS a story".

Third, the story makes it appear that this happens every day.

Fourth, deaths take place to people outside the bar.

Fifth, the plot has been going on for hundreds if not thousands of years.

Sixth, Catherine is Atlus' highest selling game in history.

Seventh, there is an anime and manga planned for release.

Discuss.

DIdn't Demon souls sell like 3 times as much?

Maybe it's because Demon souls is not developed by Atlus, and is not a Atlus franchise, and they only published it in America.

But there is still Persona. Persona 4 sold way more than Catherine.

Oh ok, my mistake.

That's because the game has influences from the Shin Megami Tensei saga (the top franchise of Atlus). In these types of games, there always exists 2 paths and sometimes 3 paths : Law (Angels) - Chaos (Demons) - Neutral (Your own path).

Law path  generally is to gain peace trough order.

Chaos path  generally is to gain peace being the stronger and do whatever you want

Neutral path depends on the game generally.

That's pretty extreme way to look at things...

I am the black sheep     "of course I'm crazy, but that doesn't mean I'm wrong."-Robert Anton Wilson

I have yet to play it since it wasn't released in EU yet but I think this is a game where single part is enough and more would be forced. And I'd rather see Persona 5 finally released.

I think I wasnt clear enough or you misunderstood my comment. I dont have any problem with paths, I have problem with them designing each path with an angel/demon (good/evil) religious thinking. Particularly considering the meter is freedom/order, not chaos/law. Some action that would go toward the demon could not even be considered evil by religious standard while some action that would go toward the angel would in fact be considered evil by religious standard. The metaphor really didnt make sense and its my only big grip about the game.

What do you mean? Devil/angel, good/evil are religious notions. And since the meter was freedom/order, it sometime wouldnt make sense even inside religious thinking. Some freedom action werent evil per se, but would still go toward the demon part of the meter. I know they didnt wanted to put freedom/order up there, but they surely could find better then a demon/angel.
