Forums - Nintendo - At last!: A new Wii virtual console game (and a pretty decent one too!)

The SNES and GBC versions of Prince of Persia are coming to the Wii and 3DS VC respectively on Friday for Europe.  I remember playing the SNES game several years ago and really enjoying it, although finding it really hard.

Seriously, how long is it since we had a new Wii VC game?  I can remember it getting some old Squaresoft gems last year like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI and Rudra no Hiho, but not really anything else noteworthy.

I don't care about Yoshi's Island too much now as I have it on my 3DS (my GBA version stopped working last year), but I would love it for the likes of Mother 2/Earthbound and Mischief Makers to come out on the Wii VC.

I clicked on this thread hoping it'd be about Yoshi's Island.

'Twas a fool's hope. =(

Damn, I was hoping for something from the N64.

Earth Bound will not happen. Legal problems (though i don't see why they couldn't do extensive editing to the game's soundtrack. They nullified other legal problems for other games, like Wave Race 64).

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

*dusts of his pile of Nintendo points* Wadda you know, I still have some Nintendo points...

Wow really? that sucks o.o

Has squareenix released Secret of Mana and Seiken Densetsu 3? What about Terranigma?

Secret of Mana came out in 2008 for the VC

Seiken Densetsu 3 hasn't, but probably will at some point in Japan.  The best we can hope for in the West is a 3DS remake with online co-op (my dream game)

Terranigma, along with Illusion of Time/Gaia and Soul Blazer aren't available yet, but I assume they will in time; as they form a set they will probably come quite close together (maybe one a month?).  As Nintendo localised Terranigma originally, they might publish it as well on the VC.  To my knowledge, the only Quintet game on the VC is the original Actraiser.

Square-Enix have been quite slow releasing their games on the VC (they only started in 2008), but they've given us Europeans loads of games we never got before like Ogre Battle 64 and Super Mario RPG.  They seem to have spread their releases out as well, it's just a lot are Japan only (Bahamut Lagoon, Rudra no Hihou, etc).

But at least they are stilll supporting the VC. I like to think that they saved a bunch of good games for this last year or so of the Wii's life, but I doubt they will put much out.

oh god this, that was the only reason why i was excited for VC intially. SNES games, I got emulators for those. Where the hell were the 64 games??

On a side note, good for Europeans but what about the US??

Have there been any N64 games since Majora's Mask? It's been almost 2 years if not.

I'll admit though that my main drive for N64 games would be Rareware, which just isn't going to happen even if Nintendo decided to push more N64 title out.

On the non-N64 front I would snap up a Micro Machines game if it released. Although as Codemasters don't seem to have released any VC games pretty sure that won't happen either

I gave up on the Rare games a while ago, but there are other gems that could be there. What about the Turoks, that popular Star Wars game, hell SNES got all of theirs. Wipeout 64, MegaMan 64, quite a few games that came out that could be there.
