Nintendo is unique but they won a price war this generation that's all, The fact that HD consoles combined outsold the Wii by a large margin is a telling statement.

It sold on price and gimmick at the start of the generation and survived awhile on some solid games. Unfortunately it's over and it has been consistently outsold for much of the year.

But for Nintendo all it will take is a bad handheld/console generation or two and it might call it quits. The Wii really saved them.

How is the fact that TWO consoles combined outsold one console by taking massive losses while that console made tons of profit 'a telling statement'?

The Wii's price and motion controls would have made it NOWHERE near as popular as it is now had it not been for the software that Nintendo put out for it. The Wii mainly sold on games like Wii FIt, Wii Sports, NSMBii and Mario Kart. Software made the Wii popular and helped it dominate in sales  for the majority of this generation. Now  it is selling close to the other consoles so LOL at 'surviving for awhile'.

The Wii really saved them alright, if you are one of those people that believe Nintendo was near death at the start of this gen despite having made good profits on GC and massive profits on DS.

Nintendo leads the way with innovation... the other 2 follow and copy what Nintendo does. With motion controls Sony copied by making Move and Xbox didnt want to follow suit so they came up with Kinect, similar by still using motion. Both Sony and Microsoft have more money to play with so they can come out with technologically superior systems but they dont really change the gaming experience. Wii kicked both their asses and it wasnt technically the better system as far as specs.

Nintendo is ONLY focused on making great software and innovative hardware for us gamers to experience.

Technically, Sony doesn't develop, but rather copy and steal.

Therefore I pick Microsoft.

You do realise a large part of developing is taking what other people do that works, and using it in your products right? Works especially well if they do it better.

Infact, that's also how innovation may happen in this industry, you see what someone else has done, then you take that idea and try to improve it.

If nobody "copied" or "stole"(lol) from anyone all our tech would be the first try at it.

Only way you can tell is by the state of the companies, and that would be an overwhelming yes for Sony to leave first ...

I don't think any will be leaving anytime soon, they may not ever leave, but I'd bet SONY.

So being technically advanced is not innovation? Which nintendo is now copying with Wii U. And oh, touch screens, did Nintendo innovate there?

Doing what is expected of you is innovative? Oh pezus...

Altthough I guess Sony did innovate with Cell. Wasn't really worth it though, IMO.

Sadly Sony due to Financials. This will signify the end of my gaming. Funny I was thinking today that Sony may be the next Sega

So you only play Sony developed games and nothing else?

I'm a huge Nintendo fan but if they ever happened to leave the gaming industry, I'd just go to the next best thing

I don't know how bad Sony is really struggling, but we definitely know their best days are behind them.

Worst case scenario they can probably become a very popular 3rd party.

But most of their titles aren't really that popular to begin with

New technology is innovation, even though we expect new technology all the time. Blu-ray, Cell, Xbox Live etc. are all innovations just as much as Wii's controllers are.

lol I don't even know how to respond to this. Seriously, you've left me speechless

EDIT: Consoles getting more powerful with time is not innovation

Based on current situations?

Sony I'd say.

Even though Nintendo screwed up with the 3DS earlier on, it showed that it still had a lot of magic in saving itself from destruction and towards relative success. Unless if they screw Wii U up big time, but I don't think they will, since the 3DS itself was already a bad enough experience.

Microsoft? Not really. C'mon, Windows (which forms a big part of itself) is still alive and kicking and literally printing truckloads of money at the moment, and the Xbox division is just a tiny tiny portion of that company. Plus, with the 360 still pretty alive and that they have gained a pretty good foothold in the American market with not much to lose (so what if they really lose money? They have a hell lot of other monetary resources to plug the pag), they're here to stay unless they decide to shut down the division themselves. Well they have all the resources to tag in a rat race together with the PS3 imo.

But for Sony, not too good I'd say. Sony is a massive corporation, where the PlayStation brand is only part of whatever it does: Computers electronics and whatever you have there. But it's been losing money, billions for the past few years. It even sold its TV division to its largest rival Samsung. Coupled with another risky venture with the PS Vita with its less than impressive showing throughout the 3 weeks in Japan, I'd say Sony's facing a pretty big problem this time round. Can it afford to risk continue losing money for the sake of capturing market share in the console market where it only forms part of its corporate structure? I don't know.
