It sold on price and gimmick at the start of the generation and survived awhile on some solid games. Unfortunately it's over and it has been consistently outsold for much of the year.

But for Nintendo all it will take is a bad handheld/console generation or two and it might call it quits. The Wii really saved them.

The Wii's price and motion controls would have made it NOWHERE near as popular as it is now had it not been for the software that Nintendo put out for it. The Wii mainly sold on games like Wii FIt, Wii Sports, NSMBii and Mario Kart. Software made the Wii popular and helped it dominate in sales  for the majority of this generation. Now  it is selling close to the other consoles so LOL at 'surviving for awhile'.

The Wii really saved them alright, if you are one of those people that believe Nintendo was near death at the start of this gen despite having made good profits on GC and massive profits on DS.
