Forums - Nintendo - 3G + online multiplayer = bust?

So, I set my phone to be access point and connect to it with the 3DS.

I tried MK7 and it would timeout on me while looking to join a game.

Is there a minimum speed?

Speedtest yield,

ping: 90ms

download: 1029kbps

upload: 680kbps

Galaki, I should smack you. Nobody thinks that 3G is good enough for online play unless it's for some board game like checkers or some card game like poker. The disconnects are insane, too.

^I disagree, I played RE 3D on 3G..well, 3.5G but still, my max speed was just 200kbps and it was smooth playing. Could be your phone's 3G network or your phone's 3G capabilities. My home internet is just a usb 3G modem. using the 3G modem, I get download speeds of up to 200kbps, but when I try putting my sim on a 3G phone, the download speed sucks balls.

Oh, this is about 3G, as in 3rd Generation.

I assumed it was concerning Galaki's theory why Monster Hunter 3G doesn't have online play

You may be right.  I was just talking about tethering a device to a mobile phone, though.

I seem to recal seeing plenty of poeple who went bonkers over the Vita being 3G, becuase they all thought millions of people would now be playing Call of Duty online ANYWHERE now.

So there are plenty of dillusional people out there.  And don't try and tell them differently, they won't listen. They will need to see for themselves how slow 3G is and how its completely unreasonable for any type of "real" game and not just checkers or words with friends.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about.

Most people are interested in the wi-fi version. 3G is seldomly mention in its official thread and Sony's forum.

Yea I sure hope most are interested in wi-fi version.  I mean who doesn't have a phone with them that could do whatever you wanted your 3G to do.  Not to mention lots of phones can be a wireless accessport, so if you can only check something on your vita and not phone, just do it that way.

BUT as I said in another thread, you will be surprised at how FEW wi-fi areas there are.  The only places I know that have wi-fi that I can hook up to with my 3DS or ipod touch or laptop is at HOME, a friends house (after I get password), and barnes and noble.  Even places like a school campus only let you sink up with a normal laptop it seems.  Can never do anything with my 3ds or touch on campus.

Probably because of WEP Enterprise, which i believe 3DS still lacks support for (enterprise rrequires you to enter credentials on connection, something Windows can do, but the Nintendo consoles can't even see)

I know because my damn college has it too

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
