Forums - Sales - Nintendo 64 Vs. Playstation Vs. Saturn

I'm surprised most of you said N64. I remember being in the minority when I liked the N64 back in the day. I probably liked the N64 for different reasons than most though:

Ogre Battle 64 - My favorite strategy game of all time
Harvest Moon 64 - Wow, when I got this I was addicted
Mario Party - Haha, even though it gets a lot of hate, it was fun 4 player

Although I did enjoy playstation games, like FF VII and Chrono Cross, and Saturn games, like Virtua Cop and NiGHTs.

I don't understand. Why would you guys take the n64 over the ps1 but the wiu over the ps3?

Because of the quality of games. N64 had a smaller but far higher quality lineup, Wii also has an extremely high quality lineup, largely in sequels of the games from N64.

ah the hours I spent with my N64
priceless

#1 n64 and ps

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

The N64 has also aged better than its kin. Pretty much any 3D game on the Saturn or PS1 looks downright ugly, while Mario 64, OoT, and such still look pretty even today.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

The best games of the generation by genre:

Best fighter: Super Smash Bros.

Best RPG: Persona 2

Best Stealth Game: MGS
Best Racing Sim: GT2
Best Arcade Racer: Wave Race 64

Best Sports game: Sports games mostly suck
Best Survival Horror: Silent Hill
Best Casual Game: Mario Party
Best 2D Game: Paper Mario
Best FPS: Goldeneye
Best Flight Game: Star Fox 64

Best Platform Game: Super Mario 64

Best Action-Adventure: Zelda OoT

 Fixed, and added one. :)

Super Smash Bros. over Tekken 3?

A game that earned a 79 on metacritic is better than the game that scored a 96? A good fighter is better than what people at the time called "one of the greatest video games of all time"?

Sorry, but the PS by miles. Some of the best games were brand new franchises.

Resident Evil, Gran Turisimo, Silent Hill to name just a few.

The best games for the N64 were just old franchises trotted out in 3D

Mario 64, Mario Kart and the Zeldas. Goldeneye is the only one I remember being new and REALLY highly rated.

Best original game on the N64 was Pikmin imho.

Yeh as good as the N64 was (Zelda anyone?) the ps had just so many games it was unbelievable. 3 ff's, mgs, gt1 and 2, Crash, tekken, street fighter, fifa cool borders. Just way to many

Ynwa.

Although I hate the Smash Bros. games I would take the N64 game over Tekken 3 any day. But that's probably because I am European and Tekken 3 got a slow motion version here.

Hey, when the game was released, people were saying that it was better than the arcade counterpart, and yes, people were claiming it as, not only one of the best fighters, but one of the best video games ever made.

I don't know if it was the first fighting game to introduce it, but what made it stick out was introducing sidestepping, which really changed the offensive/defensive tactics.
