Forums - Sales - Do you think with the world in the economic toilet there's no apetite for expensive nexgen consoles?

Being that I've seen people and news stories discussing buying $600 iPads for 6 year olds, I think there are enough people with excessive money (or a poor ability to set priorities) to fully support the release of a next generation system.

All that could be being funded by debt/credit, in turn being adversely effected if there is another credit crunch.

Either that or the revenue is being shifted from capital or capital-ish investments (like homes) to pointless consumer crap

Which is a problem for the economy on a macro level, but on a micro level is a good sign for console manufacturers (and people who make other consumer crap)

I think it all depends. If somehow, consoles do have something that make them a must have, than, most likely a high price won`t be a problem. But i just don`t see that happening, not even for Wii U.
Taking into consideration how some european markets will be affected next year, it would be wise to not release them with a high price point. That would not only endanger themselves but also the companies that develop games for it. And if those companies fail, so will the consoles who won`t have that many games or there will be fewer AAA games, making the consoles less significant.

I sincerely don`t have high expectations for next gen consoles with higher prices (which could also mean, more powerfull consoles), specially because of the european market.
