Forums - Nintendo - Wii U Could Cost $600 At Release?

Its just a placeholder. We already know the Wii U won't be a powerhouse so $600 is way too high for the console. Unless Nintendo is planning on making a huge profit on each console sold.

Didn't they list the PS Vita at like $999.99 or something ridiculous like that when it was first announced? This is just retailers being assholes... no way will the Wii U even come close to $600 in any territory.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Ridicilous article. It will cost no more than $300.

Only if it's underpowered to the levels of X360/PS3

Which it pretty much will. Look at all the upcoming PS360 multiplatforms that are also planned for the Wii U like Aliens Colonial Marines. Yes, it might be able to do 1080p instead of 720p and thus perhaps have a twice as powerful GPU as the PS360 but by 2012 even that kind of GPU will be old and very cheap tech.

How I am thinking to myself: Okay, the hardware is relatively stronger than the original Wii which would mean say $300 instead of a $250 launch price for the machine itself and then you have to add $50 for the advanced Wii U controller which would give a $350 launch price for the Wii U if they wanted to make a little profit with every unit solds like with the Wii. But Nintendo learned from the 3DS launch fiasco and thus will allow themselves instead to lose a few Dollars on each Wii U unit sold to offer an attractive price - $300.

By that logic, the 360 was only twice as strong as the PS2 and Xbox, since it launched with a stupid number of multiplats (including King Kong and the like).

I highly doubt its true......and besides, Nintendo doesn't have the balls like Sony does to release a console at such a high price lol

I hope we get a giant enemy crab with that one

Nintendo kinda did with the 3DS but that quickly died within a few months, hopefully they learned their lesson and wont make that mistake again ;x.

I didnt think the 3DS was that pricey seeing as how PSP was released at $250 and the Vita will be too.  It seems $250 is the general price now for a handheld.

this definatly won't happen. the only reason the PS3 was so much was because of the hardware inside, wii-u will be about as powerful as the 360, and that came out almost a decade ago.
Sony already said they are said they are not doing that mistake again.

the only way i can see the wii-u being more then $300 is the controllers themselves. and even that is a stretch, chances are the wii-u will be $200 for the basic package, and $300 for the deluxe

$200 seems a little too cheap for the rumored specs, and Nintendo won't take that much of a loss on it. "Almost as powerful as the 360?" look at the rumored specs. I don't see it going for more than $450, but the price won't be on the "down low" as well. $300 is the cheapest, and $450 is the most expensive IF it comes bundled with something.

Nintendo isn't dumb....Sony taught everyone that no matter how successful the previous console iteration was. It's still possible to price yourself right out of competition.

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi

You need to think about the HDD and BR player that adds to the cost of the PS3 and if they are making a profit now with all of that in there then the WiiU can be more powerful than them even if it ends up on 300$ Nintendo might even take a loss on it. Whatever the cost of those things is it will be added to the power of the WiiU because it won’t feature DVD/BR or a hard disk as big as any of the HD consoles

Does anybody know how much Sony is making on each PS3 sold?

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Wont pass the $350 mark, imo.
