Forums - Sony - To the Doubters: UC2 and UC3 run exclusively on the Cell ><

Upon further inspection, i was wrong and you all kicked my ass!

I misunderstood what he was saying and competely appologies (the engine still relies alot on the CPU to render graphics but it also relies about the same on the GPU - erk.)><

Ill post the vid in second post.

...uhh...ill just put my favorite quote of all time here.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

What exactly do you mean by "exclusive"? The GPU still renders the entire game, which is hardly a small task.

Where does it remotely mentions that the engine uses the CELL exclusively?

I think you just don't understand a single word of what they are talking about. xD

He specifically mentions the GPU's tasks...

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

It's unfortunate for us and Sony that the PS3 was nerfd from it's original design. It would have been an even bigger hill to climb but the rewards would be paying huge dividends, at this point.

Do they use the SPUs arguably better than anyone (except maybe GG) - probably. But nothing I heard made me think they don't use the GPU too. TBH it would seem crazy not to. Whatever they put on Cell why not use the GPU as well - it still offers additional resources?

My understanding was they push a ton of additional computing (physics, animation, etc.) and a lot of additional graphics calculations through the Cell (thereby using it properly unlike a few games I could mention) and then push the final image plus some other visual elements through the GPU to produce the final on-screen render.

I'm curious about this and will have to hunt around for some other articles to see what I can find.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

Frankly, I've never seen that to be an important part of the process.

Hey, easy to do if you're not technically minded.  ND's engine does use the SPUs a lot, and indeed for elements of graphical processing as well, and it's that combination coupled with use of the GPU that enables them to produce such great results.
