Forums - PC - Anybody tried out onlive?

I downloaded the onlive app and signed up earlier, as a BT customer I got 3 months of free play on a bunch of games in the "Playpack"... nothing too recent in there, but Batman: AA, Bioshock, Prince of Persia, Tropico 3, Homefront (multiplayer only), Borderlands all playable plus around 100 more games. There are also 30 minute demos for more recent games - Saint's Row 3, Batman Arkham City, what Assassin's Creed is out, bleh..

Frankly, it's blowing my mind. I want to know what kind of networking wizardry is behind this.. my connection often stuggles with Youtube, and yet I'm having no connection issues with this thing.

I knew this kind of service was the future of gaming... I wasn't aware that it's also very close to being the present. I'm able to play the latest games on the highest settings, with my 3-4 year old computer. No loading, no downloading. I can spectate other players instantly, and the thing is constantly recording what you're doing which you can create "brag clips" with.

With the likes of this, and chrome books, companies are going to have a very hard time selling new hardware in the future.

No, i haven't tried it. I have very limited bandwidth so it's out of reach :(

But if you want I have a code for Deus Ex if you haven't played it yet

I've tried it, but I'm not sold on it yet. I adore the principles that you listed, the technology just isn't where I would like it to be yet.

Yeah, bandwidth would be an issue for those on a cap. I don't know how much it uses, but it wouldn't be much better than streaming HD video, I assume.

That would be awesome, I'd love the code. Thank you very much!

I don't think it's quite there for competitive multiplayer. But, I'm on a 5mb connection over wi-fi, and it's clean enough for me to play offline games. I'll be going back home next week, so I'll be able to try it on a (slightly) better connection.

I tried Assassin's Creed II on the WiFi connection available from my university, and I was quite surprised by how well it works. The problem for me is that the controls took a noticable hit and image consistency wasn't very good. It was certainly still playable, but I wouldn't trade my consoles or to-be highend PC for it.

Samuel and Rainbird, ur both from Europe. Last time I tried Onlive it didnt let me (Sweden). Has it opened for Europeans now?

It's been a while since I tested it the first time, but I just tried it again, and I can access everything just fine. My laptop isn't good with HD video though, so things aren't totally playable for me on this PC. :-/

According to Wiki, it's available in UK and US... but Rainbird's profile says he's from Denmark, so I don't know.

<- germany, when i tried Onlive (32mbit/.. like, 4MB?) a while back, it actually worked very well for me. didnt play Stuff online, so i cant judge that part of the line, but SP was pretty much awesome. (Used faked NA data for my account.. but my IP wasnt changed or anything, and they did let me play)

i wont be playing DL Only /Streamed Games (as long as games are also stored and sold on Physical Media), since i like to have my games at home, but i sipmly can't deny how brilliant Onlive actually is.

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!
