Forums - Gaming - is it too late to get current Gen consoles

Its not to late but next gen will be here in late 2012 so i would hold off especially if you plan on getting a 360 or PS3. Due to the fact that the next generation will start out probably around the 400-500 mark. Don't want to blow 300 right now on a 360 or 250 on a PS3 and then just to see the next gen start a year later.

There's the thing about backwards compatibility, plus there are so many cheap games floating around now that even if you spend $300 on a new PS3 (most expensive), you're going to be able to get cheap games for it. Plus, I never try to buy the first generation of consoles, either, because that's when most of the problems occur.

It doesn't hurt to get a current gen console at this time, because there's so many choices in games right now for any of them, that you won't be in a drought with games to play. All three consoles have their own great games to play, so it doesn't matter which one you pick. In terms of exclusives and the number of them, I think the PS3 has the other two beat. If you play online a lot, then the 360 definitely has the advantage there. The Wii has some fantastic exclusives, too, that you know you will probably love if you've played any of their previous iterations.

when it come to online i got my PC so its all right, i dont wish to Pay for something that should have been free, its just not worth it. even though i has seen people on the interwebs justify paying the amount for a year is worth it.

You're best off snagging a used/refurbished Xbox 360 and/or PS3 through Amazon or eBay. The only real questions for you to consider are which system has the better exclusive gaming titles, and do you need a Blu-ray player.

I just snagged a great deal on a 360 off eBay just the other day. But for me, it's still too EARLY to get a PS3, considering that it's been out for 5+ years and you cannot purchase one new for under $250. Of course, that's myself on a budget, so if you have the money for it then it's a moot argument.

The last thing I would recommend would be Not buying a Wii since Nintendo's next console could be out even within 6 months. There's not enough value left in it at this point.

So consider the software lineup for each console, and how much of an all-in-one entertainment device you're looking for. And always remember that with this sort of decision, eBay can be your best friend.

Lastly, keep in mind how unfriendly these companies have become (except Nintendo) with backward-compatibility.  If you wait too long, you might miss out altogether on the best that this generation had to offer.  And if you're a Zelda fan, you can always wait for the Wii U and buy it on the cheap after that system comes out.

Cheers, and good luck!

It depends on which games you are into.
PS3 Has Uncharted, Gran Turismo, God of War, Infamous, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance, Killzone, Motorstorm and the best game ever "Last Of Us" ;)
X360 has Halo, Gear of War, Forza, Crackdown, Fable, Alan Wake and that's it.

Look at those games and pick the console with more appealing games to you.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

It's probably best moment. They are cheap and you have tons of second hand and budget line titles to choose from.

As a mainly PC gamer I'd advise PS3 since it's stronger in games we don't have on pc like jrpgs or slashers. X360 on the other hand is more like poors man pc.

As for Wii hmm - definitly I wouldn't pick it as my main console. If you still have time after pc and ps3 gaming you could get it as third platform since they are dirt cheap when bough second hand)

Well if you look at list of X360 exclusives it becomes even shorter once you factor in stuff like ME1, Fable 3, Gears 1 was ported to pc and you can already play all the "console exclusives" (as people call x360/pc games).

Since you have a PC to play multiplatform games, I suggest you get a PS3 since it has more exclusives and possibly more games you might like (I'm pretty sure Fable 3, halo will get ported over to the pc eventually).

sensebringer mentioned some good exclusives, but some games he forgot to mention if you are a RPG/Adventure lover are:

-Disgaea 3
-Disgaea 4
-Ico and Shadow of Collossus HD collection
-The Atelier RPG series
-Folklore
-Makai Wars
-White Knight Chronicles 1 and 2
-Tales of Graces F (Feb 2012 release date)

There's also other games such as

-Yakuza 3 and 4
-The Sly Collection
-Motorstorm
-Time Crisis Razing Storm
-Heavenly Blade
-Genji

If you want something away from HD gaming, than get a wii which will include all 1st party titles and only like 10% of the 3rd party titles that are actually good...lol.

thanks for the list, games like time crisis i eventually need to get the move right, cause using the DS3 will look odd.

I'd get PS3 if you want to play exclusives, I got 360 because it was a) cheaper b) about 95% of my friends had it, so it's a great social device.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

Nope. Just look at latest sales, over 1 million 360s, just under 800 K PS3s, loads of Wiis.... the consoles are now cheap, many of the best games are cheap and there are still big games to launch for each.

Unless you want to buy new consoles day one next gen then I'd say timing is good to get into current consoles fairly cheaply.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
