You're best off snagging a used/refurbished Xbox 360 and/or PS3 through Amazon or eBay. The only real questions for you to consider are which system has the better exclusive gaming titles, and do you need a Blu-ray player.
I just snagged a great deal on a 360 off eBay just the other day. But for me, it's still too EARLY to get a PS3, considering that it's been out for 5+ years and you cannot purchase one new for under $250. Of course, that's myself on a budget, so if you have the money for it then it's a moot argument.
The last thing I would recommend would be Not buying a Wii since Nintendo's next console could be out even within 6 months. There's not enough value left in it at this point.
So consider the software lineup for each console, and how much of an all-in-one entertainment device you're looking for. And always remember that with this sort of decision, eBay can be your best friend.
Lastly, keep in mind how unfriendly these companies have become (except Nintendo) with backward-compatibility. If you wait too long, you might miss out altogether on the best that this generation had to offer. And if you're a Zelda fan, you can always wait for the Wii U and buy it on the cheap after that system comes out.
Cheers, and good luck!
