By fans even though still mixed in reception it was overall received better in Japan than in the West, yet it will end up doing roughly 1/3rd of what FFXIII did. So surely the decline would be greater in the West.

Final Fantasy XIII sold just shy of 6.5 million worldwide. Which is the fourth best a Final Fantasy game has ever done. The first FF on a main console always sells better than the following ones, though. In the two previous generations, the drops were 20% and 28%.

Drops in sales of over 50% from one title to the sequel on the same machine practically never happen. I can actually only remember one time it has ever happened.

I'd say four and a half to five million sounds about right. That's a drop of 20-30% from XIII-2.

It will pull around or over 2 million in Japan alone.
