| davygee said: Okay I got a PS3 for my Xmas, I have never had a PS2 and the only PS2 game I have played is Buzz. I got the 60Gb Euro model that IS PS2 compatible (to a certain degree). Anyway, I would like to make a list of PS2 games that I should get, that really have to be played. So far I have made this list: ICO, Shasow of the Colossus, God of War, God of War 2, Okami, Resident Evil 4. What else needs to be played or not missed? |
Get Killzone. Okay it may not be the best FPS ever, but it will be necessary to play it if your planning on getting Killzone 2 when its out.
Also if your into racing games, get Gran turismo 4. Those are 2 of my favourite of all time.
Bust a Groove (the first one only)
Vagrant Story
Parappa the Rapper
Xenogears
Final Fantasy Tactics
You must play Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga, Persona 3, and Nocturne (in that order) if you have even the least bit of interest in RPGs. They're the best on the system.
Also, Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts: Covenant.
"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

hostile program in tron
Once you get to a certain level in its health, you cannot do any more damage. It is definitely not my fault, as I did easily on PS2
@davygee :
Seriously, don't listen to all the people in this thread, some advices are useless.
I was going to follow this thread as advice to myself, but the thread has now a lot of fail.
Why?
Because I see nonsense recommended to you, like FF Tactics or Xenogears. These are PS1 games that were NEVER RELEASED IN EUROPE! Seems like some people answering to you didn't yet understand that you have a PAL PS3, and so, can only play games released in Europe for PS1 and PS2. And seems like most didn't check if the PS2 games they recommend to you even were released in Europe.
Fortunately, these are mostly very successful games that saw a release in PAL land, but AFAIK Suikoden III didn't for example.
Besides, don't take games like RE4 or Okami. You'd better get the Wii versions of these games if you really want to play them, or you will suffer playing downgraded games.
And enjoy your PS3 which IS as backward compatible as the US 80 GB.
I should do the same as you and go for budget games, but life is too short.
To me, the best feature of the PS3 is that there's no region lock. That will prevent us to have to mod our console to be able to play foreign games. That's how I could play Xenogears and FF Tactics for example. Sad...
I am shocked that odin sphere has not yet been recommended.
But yah, some of the boss fights are a little buggy, even still it's a great game.
I have had my ps3 since it came out but i never had a ps2 so i've been playing a lot of the ps2 games. I found eb games has some great deals on the ps2 games, i picked up 8 games before christmas for under 100 bux. (Drakkengard 1 and 2, Dark Cloud 2, Tetris worlds... which unless i'm missing something is not worth getting, even at 5 bux. I think these where mentioned already though).

Well, considering that I actually own the European 60gb model, I can tell you that the compatability is certainly not 95%. The 60gb European model lacks the EE, just like the American 80gb. They both have the same hardware (with the exclusion of HDD size), and they both run off the same firmware.
Along with many of the games listed above, I'd have to recommend Disgaea. The game is an absolute gem.
Not having a PS2 beforehand, I'm sure that PS3 will see no shortage of games. Of course, not to say that there aren't plenty of great PS3 games to occupy already.
