lol actually it is Music Unlimited that sparked this thread to begin with. As the service was ramping up their was leaks from Sony and apparently Sony was musing over leaving i-Tunes to make Music Unlimited the exclusive source for Sony. Its the fact that Sony was actually contemplating the move already that I came to the conclusion it would have a devastating effect on Apple and Sony could benefit in the long run.
As for NBC, to my knowledge they do not have hardware to sell their content on. Sure they can sell on Android but they don't have all that much of an alternative Sony is in a drastically different position. Though as some pointed out Sony's hardware needs to be improved as well for Sony to fully take advantage of any exclusive content.
Now Apple claims to have control of 70% of the downloadable music market. However the same research from NPD suggested Apple only controlled 28% of the over all music industry. A move losing that market share would definitely hit Sony but if it made profitable hardware that was of competitive quality and offered its music and movies on all other platforms for the time being they would hit Apple hard. Then after hitting Apple hard Sony could slowly transition to exclusively supporting their hardware eventually ditching Android products that aren['t produced by Sony.
As it stands Apple has a monopoly if Sony has any chance of competing they need to take away vital content. As for those suggesting Apple could take over Sony at the drop of a hat. Not going to happen for many reasons, A. According to Wikipedia Sony's assets are worth over 150-billion USD even if Sony is losing some money annually Apple couldn't take the company over. B. Japan, the Japanese Government would not likely allow an American company to take over Sony.C. Sony employs almost 3x the amount of employees Apple does a take over would mean boosting Apple's operating costs so drastically its not funny.
Apple may have more disposable income then Sony, but their assets aren't worth nearly as much about 40 billion USD less then Sony. Any attempt to take over Sony by Apple would be suicide. If you think Sony leaving Apple is suicide then Apple buying Sony would be as likely surviving flying into the sun!
