Forums - Nintendo - Reggie promises casual assault next year!

Joel, the actual interview was by a guy who considers "casuals" to be his main audience and so he kept asking questions about casual games, which is why Reggie talked mainly about casual games... Read the comments section in the actual source and you will get extra confirmation.

Following is your post - I have bolded and underlined what I consider interpretation/misrepresentation, and it is exactly these parts that people have been reacting to and "freaking out about".

===================================================================

The Regginator recently sat down with AOL to discuss the 3DS, it has been pointed out that Nintendo took 3DS in a hardcore direction ignoring the user base that made DS such a massive success in the first place. Well Reggie has stated Nintendo is going to right that wrong next year, 2011 may have been the year of the hardcore gamer but 2012 is going to be the year of the casual.

"My expectation is that, come E3, I think we'll be showcasing a range of different titles that, for a more casual consumer, they'll see reasons to jump on board with the Nintendo 3DS," When asked for further details Reggie gave the typical Nintendo response "I can't go into the details of what exactly those titles will be, but stay tuned. There is information that we'll be sharing prior to E3, plus a lot of information at E3 as well."

So what kind of software can we expect from Nintendo and what target audience? "Will there be content to appeal to consumers 50 plus the way Brain Age did? Absolutely," Fils-Aime confirmed. "Will there be content that's going to appeal to women the way we are able to do with the DS? Absolutely."

That is true however Reggies comments clearly suggest a casual drive next year. I have edited the OP to clarify in greater detail though I must say I do not see how I was mis-inturpretting. If you read my other responses in this thread you would see I never suggested Nintendo was ditching the hardcore rather that their is going to be an imminent drive towards casual.

I guess those two sentences may have been a tad confusing as such I have edited them for more clarity. P.S- i read the interview on a different source and I used Eurogamer as the primary source for the thread. So I did not have a comments section like the one found in your source. Sources do differ as does the media's interpretation of the interview. Since I didn't conduct the interview I could only go by what my sources said and what I gathered from the interview.

That being said I have edited the OP to clarify and relieve any misunderstanding. Thank you for your constructive criticism I like to ensure that my threads are of the highest possible quality. In the future do not hesitate to point out anything you think is flawed, I will be happy to explain the matter or edit and correct anything that might be seen as inaccurate. Also please don't say I didn't with the insult Nintendo thread, I created the thread based on Capcom/Nintendo fans who were actually insulted as I explained in that thread. Everyone has an opinion and if some feel insulted it is a valid topic to discuss on VGChartz.

OMG I am starting to have a reaction against this man, so far i have never care about him since I am not in the Usa but he is starting to get annoying is he?

I am sorry here, but your desire to get irate over this makes me long for more and more casual content to get demanding "hardcore" gamers all pouting and upset over an interest to get new people involved with videogames.  That, and also those who have other things to do with their time than play videogames all the time.

am i the only one that reads "reggie promises sexual assault" every time they see the thread?

I think some of the posters on this thread forget that they are a very small (albeit vocal) minority of video game players.

Nintendo has been about growing the pie. So-called "casual" titles do that. So do "hard core" titles. A console -- particularly a handheld -- must have both. Nintendo must remember this and not go too far out-of-balance (see the last year for the Wii in North America for out-of-balance).

That being said, some people here seem to think only of their own desires rather than looking at the big picture.

I feel like I'm being sexually assaulted by Reggie everytime he starts opening up his pie hole and telling us longtime Ninty fans that the casual / expanded audience is more important than us.  He doesn't even have the common courtesty to give us a reach-around either while he's blowing smoke up our collective asses.

I hope there's some serious "casuals" from his assault next year... pun intended.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

At this rate the only game left on the horizon for my Wii ever is a game I have to import from the U.K.

Thanks Reggie!

Still waiting on my copy of Zelda from Amazon. Seems they don't want to ship it or something >.<

reggie needs to go.

Why? For continueing to cater to a market that helped them explode out of the rut they'd been in for two console generations and actually become a worldwide leader in the video game market? Or just making games you don't want?

Seriously, come on guys. This year you got Pilot Wings, Zelda OoT3D, Starfox 3D, Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, and Pokemon Black & White. Their casual selection this year? Nintendogs. And next year, your getting Luigi's Mansion 2, Kid Icarus, Mario Tennis, and Paper Mario. Your already getting what you want! (unless what you want is original franchise titles, in which case your fresh out of luck, lol).

Nintendo has long been catering to both the hardcore and casual crowd, especially in recent years, and while I certainly can't defend their dismal Wii line up for 2011, lets not forget that last year they gave Super Mario Galaxy 2, Sin and Punishment 2, Metroid Other M, and Donkey Kong Country returns. Nintendo has LONG been appealing to the "broad spectrum", and Reggie merely indicating that yes, they will continue to cater to the casual crowd that made them boat loads of cash doesn't change that.

Seriously people, come on. Don't act like Nintendo hasn't already been catering to you, and doesn't already have a line up of games for you next year, many of which I'm sure your excited for. I know plenty of people excited for Paper Mario, or who have been demanding a new Luigi's Mansion and Kid Icarus.

But Paper Mario, Zelda, Starfox, Super Mario, Pokemon? By gosh, where is Uncharted, where is Shadow of the Colossus. Certainly Sony is not the only one able to produce such content! Why is Prime not the Halo killer? Where is the marketing?

Why this is all important is because most of us believe Nintendo has the talent, they just aren't playing their cards right and need to improve brand prestige. How did Halo get so big and Prime get so small?

Where is Sony's Paper  Mario, Zelda, Starfox, and Super Mario?

Different developers make different games. Further more, Nintendo HAS made Xenoblade, Last Story, and Pandora's Tower. Prime isn't a Halo killer because it isn't a Halo killer, it's nothing like Halo, and wouldn't even appease the same fanbase. Unless their marketing Mario or Pokemon, Nintendo typically sucks at it.

In any case, none of this is really the point. People aren't complaining about Nintendo not having an answer to Unchated, Shadow, or Halo. They are not complaining about the marketing. What they ARE complaining about, is that Nintendo isn't making hardcore games and won't be next year, which is simply not true.

super mario=Jak&Daxter, Sly, R&C   Starfox=War/Starhwak   Zelda=NA  Paper Mario= Sideways NY??? Its the closest I can think

Between you and me, i never got the whole Ninty needs a Halo or Uncharted or whatever game. Hasnt there been enough space marines?? Do we really want more?? Even if Ninty did make them i doubt they would be anywhere close to what those games do. So they would just keep on playing Halo anyway
