Funnily enough, I've actually been thinking the opposite, that The Elder Scrolls would benefit from borrowing from a few of Zelda's gameplay mechanics. Particularly the fighting mechanics, as I'm finding that the combat in Skyrim is easily the game's weakest area (I say 'easily' not because combat is bad per se, but because the rest of the game feels much more compelling and fresh).

Also, while dungeons and castles litter the (awesome) world of Skyrim, thus far (25 hours in...), they're very different from Zelda temples and dungeons, and that's just fine. Skyrim's are much more straight forward (less focus of puzzles, more focus on action and combat) than Zelda's, but that's fine.

I've been seeing a few posts around gamrConnect recently that have been comparing the two as some sort of competition, or even suggesting that one game makes the other obsolete... and I really don't see how people can come to these conclusions. Both games have their similarities, sure, but they are also very different from one another and can co-exists rather nicely. I'm so incredibly glad I bought Skyrim, and am enjoying it immensely, but come November 20th (darn you Europeans!), I'll also be buying Skyward Sword and playing the stuffing out of that.

Looks like I win this round Malstrom (and e-mailer that spelled "they're" wrong), I get the best of both worlds.

how would the elder scrolls benefit from thecomba mechanics of zelda??

i dont think that gadgets and all of these things fit the game properly because its not that puzzle based. also i cant imagine skyrim with the gameplay of SS it would be horrid.

As a Zelda fan, no, I don't want an old combat system and Bethesda's trademark glitches.

if zelda has as much content as skyrim and as much replaybility i dont think you would be mad because of a couple of glitches.

until now i only encountered terrible screan tearing(which was fixed with a day one patch that i dont feel like downloading) but all i had to do was quit the game reload and its fixed.

I use to be a huge Zelda fan (still kinda am) but I have grown tiresome of the same story related iterations with each release. I have also become a fan of Elders Scrolls ever since I played Morrowind on the Xbox and My favorite thing has always been the option of actually exploring the world which I find in Zelda lacking.

Until the day I am able to explore Hyrule.............Skyrim will hold me over!

Very, very subjective. Super Metroid can be done in less than 3 hours and has a lot of replay value. I have put in Twilight Princess almost 800 hrs. And Skyward Sword has a second quest. Many reviews has pointed and praised the replaybility.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Nah. I mean, the number one thing to Zelda fan's I THINK is that it plays like Zelda.

It's been since the N64... and nobody else seems to be able to make a Zelda style game that plays like it... still!

What people want from the classic Nintendo Franchises is mostly the basic core game play that for whatever reason nobody else can seem to get exactly right. With Nintendo taking a few more risks and changing up the settings and other things a bit more.

This sean mallstrom guy is really becoming more and more annoying. He is entitled to have his opinion but now he is really reaching.

He thinks he knows everything better than everybody and particulary better than all the Nintendo developpers and marketings professionals. Here are some of the idea that this guy always write:

1) He knows better what Mario is about than Miyamoto, he also know better about Zelda, Metroid, and every Nintendo licence
2) Nintendo games now are shit while they were perfect in the past
3) Mario 3D are particulary bad, only 2D Mario are good games and Miyamoto is stupid for doing 3D Mario
4) Zelda games are now for child or nostalgic because it is less good than previously
5) Aonuma has no gaming skills because he likes putting puzzle in Zelda
6) Iwata does not understand anything about videogames

That's his favourites subject of writings.

And he keeps defending this ideas with wrong ideas. By exemple regarding Zelda he is saying that the serie "keeps losing fans" and only appeal to people who never played PC eventough Twilight Princess is the best seller of the serie and after the success of the DS versions.
