Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wii U vs PS4 vs Xbox One FULL SPECS (January 24, 2014)

I put up my guess. About 12625Yen or $162.65US, most of the work is outlined in my previous post.

Hey chunk, I never got your opinion on how much more powerful the Wii U is compared to the last gen HD systems!!! When I started that thread, I was thinking you were gonna be one of the first ones to respond seeing how you started this one.

I thought I did comment in that thread.

I'm thinking 2x to 4x PS360.

Given that BLOPS2 is running 1080p60fps on Wii U's with a 2nd screen running... that says a lot to this being closer to 4x.

I'm bumping this bitch up!!

Chunky, now that we know BLOP2 won't in fact run at 1080p60fps, do you think WiiU is closer to being a mere 2x stronger than PS360? And how much stronger do you suspect the forthcoming PS720 will be?

cheers mate!

Yeah, stores make more profit from games.

But we still ignore if Nintendo is making a profit from the basic model or not, and if there is a profit, they won't tell us how much it is. And there are also the packaging and shipping costs that will be different from WiiU to PS4 as the consoles/boxes won't have the same size or weight.

So once all is said and done, we may end with a rough guess of the cost of the materials, but there are many other costs that we will never know.

I think it is fair to assume that Nintendo isn't losing a substantial amount of money on the sale of their system, but I doubt there will be a massive per-unit profit on the sale of the hardware initially. After they pay for the physical components and licensing of hardware, software and services licensing, assembly, packaging & accessories, and shipping I would expect the Wii U costs (roughly) what they're selling it for. I really wouldn't be surprised if services like TVii and Miiverse (and most of the OS software) involve third party systems that are licensed per unit sold.

Indeed.

I think that Nintendo may is selling the Basic model for very little profit, but with the Premium they will make some money.

Do you really think that they are using 3rd party software for their OS/Miiverse? Besides TVii (which relies on 3rd party content and is not available in every region), I think that Nintendo (as every Japanese Co.) tries to rely on its own stuff as much as it can, and I don't know why would they need help with the OS give n the good work they have done with the Wii and DS/3DS.

Please excuse my bad English.

I don't know the inner workings on what Nintendo has produced, but I have seen many companies out-source the development of similar software and services because they're not part of their core business.

Me neither, but after reading the Iwata Ask's of WiiU (specially the second one about the GamePad) they seem to ask for help with hardware, not software.

They make their own OS, Google even licenses one of Nintendo's older OS for test and development. If I remember correctly. And for hardware they look to other companies, if they like it enough they buy the company, they did that with MoSys and their 1-T DRAM technology for the Gamecube, I think they shared it with IBM under the partnership that has lasted now for 3 generations.

I don't think any of these look right but I haven't kept up on rumors.

While it sucks BLOPS2 has hinted native 1080p60fps and then confirmed to not be... I still think all of that has a lot more to do with 3rd parties not wanting to put in a bunch of extra cost for a game that will undoubtebly have its lowest sales on a console with a current base of zero.

It will be a bit before a port from PS360 really takes advantage of WiiU hardware, if ever. More than likely we'll have to wait for nextGen to move into full force to really see WiiU's difference. Maybe just until the Retro game comes out or one of the now known nextGen titles are confirmed as multiplat and on WiiU as well. (I'm looking at you Watch Dogs)

I still think its closer to 4x at the moment. I can of course be wrong and I'm basing it off of the OP at this moment. When Wii U launches and its actually tore apart and measured more accurately, we will know. Good news is that's less than two months away.
