" 256GB/s 100MB eDRAM"
This bit from the FAKE 720 specs posted by some moron pranker who used to post on Beyond3D is bullshit just so you know.
unlike the rest of the specs (which he also kind of made up by himself), it isn't really realistic.

"Media Proprietary 25GB Disc"
Arent Wii-u's game disks blurays without the licensing to playback movies??
Looking at the Wii that uses dvd-r disks andcan actually be software modded to be a dvd plaer
Dont see why they would bother themselves with an entirely new proprietary format both disks and disk reader, unnessary costs with no real benefit
Bluray dvd player with no royalty licensing for movie playback seems to make the most sensible and cost effective route for Wii-U.

In theory, you can pack twice as many transistors into the same area with 32nm as with 45nm, so you get twice as many dies out of your waver (and the whole things can run faster as the distances are shorter). In reality, you can't really double, because the smaller the stuff gets, the more problems you run into, requiring redesigns and "emergency measures" to get the thing runnign at all. |
Thank you for the clarification.

Nintendo's E3 site lists an unspecified amount of internal flash memory PLUS SD card expansion AND external HDD. The 250GB was on another source and probably relates a Nintendo branded one similar to the Wii branded SD cards.
Rumors for both so far, that I've read, show (G)DDR5. However, I'll change as more info comes out.
Bluray is my own common sense addition. Just because its part of a Sony technology doesn't mean they'll automatically not use it. Its the standard media format and MS will continue to have video playback.

Ok, I looked into it more and see why you said it was unrealistic. Its been fixed. Power7 has 4MB of L3 Cache (eDRAM) on each core.

From Nintendo's E3 site, "A single self-loading media bay will play 12-centimeter proprietary high-density optical discs for the new console, as well as 12-centimeter Wii optical discs."
Nintendo doesn't do licensing fees, so don't expect bluray of any form. There are plenty of other discs out there with similar features and storage that they can use that will provide them lower prices as well as probably better security (not mainstream).

Yeah sorry i saw your other post regarding the WiiU specs.
As for the Nextbox you have the 2gb listed as GDDR5, i thought it was rumored DDR3. Anyway would a single pool of GDDR5 work with CPU?
Assuming it's DDR3, then the Wii-U wouldn't be too much at a disadvantage since it would have faster ram, even though it would have less. It would depend on the game itself (resource hog or not). However, The nextbox would have more raw cpu power already and more than likely a more powerful gpu (rumored dual).
I cant wait till PS4 rumors start, although i think were far from hearing the first rumors.

I think so far all I've seen is the GDDR5 which would be for graphics. I haven't seen anything on its regular ram yet. As for the dual GPU... there is no way that's happening.
But, of course its still early in rumor-ville, so we'll see as things progress.
btw OP updated with all this discussion and a little more research.

I meant that the nextbox rumors said it was going to be similar to the 360, shared ram; in this case 2gb ddr3. Yeah true, I noticed most people had the same conclusion.
