Looking at the Wii that uses dvd-r disks andcan actually be software modded to be a dvd plaer Dont see why they would bother themselves with an entirely new proprietary format both disks and disk reader, unnessary costs with no real benefit Bluray dvd player with no royalty licensing for movie playback seems to make the most sensible and cost effective route for Wii-U. |
From Nintendo's E3 site, "A single self-loading media bay will play 12-centimeter proprietary high-density optical discs for the new console, as well as 12-centimeter Wii optical discs."
Nintendo doesn't do licensing fees, so don't expect bluray of any form. There are plenty of other discs out there with similar features and storage that they can use that will provide them lower prices as well as probably better security (not mainstream).
