Forums - General - What is your favourite Star Wars movie, and why?

I also grew up with the original SW movies (I WAS born they came out!). The  cast in the older 3 was much more likable and had an amazin chemistry the recent 3 were severely lacking. However 3 wound up being stronger than 6 (lack of Ewoks!).

Here's my take:

1. Episode 5 (Empire)

2. Episode 4 (New Hope)

3. Episode 3 (Sith)

4. Episode 6 (Jedi)

5. Episode 1 (Phantom)

6. Episode 2 (Clone/God Awful)

BAM! There it is!

@ Played: I agree with you, to a point. Episode 1, while decent as a 'movie' did not deserve to carry the Star Wars banner (though I liked JarJar, unlike most). Episode 2 just did not deserve to be a movie at all.

But I have to disagree with you about Episode 3. To me, it absolutely epitomized the themes that Lucas tries to portray with the series. Fear of the power of the dark side, anger, revenge, constant struggle of good vs evil (even within oneself), it was all present and accounted for. Even more so than in Empire/Jedi. Just my opinion, of course.

He turned evil WAY to quick. He went from, conflicted and considering going evil to save his wife to killing kids in like one scene. I mean he totally murdered a bunch of kids.

Ah, but the beauty of it is, that he was overhwhelmed by the dark side, and when he went to see what was happening with Mace Windu and Palpatine, he didn't know that Mace already tried to arrest him. All he saw was Mace holding Palpatine, his lifetime mentor, at sabre-point. This is when he turned to the dark side. Also, remember, Palpatine manipulated his ravaged mind into thinking that killing the Jedi would make him strong enough to save Padme.

See I think it was a "what can we do to make sure Anakin has no likeability by the end of this movie."  Since the rest of it could be seen as wanting to save his love which people could relate too as there are plenty of people who would betray there friends for the person they love.

Episode VI : Leia in her first 'costume'!And for a few other reasons i don't remember too well. ;)
Thank goodness i am not the only one who likes Jar-Jar.I felt so lonely until this thread. XD

Quality for Life

This is hard for me to decide. One was great because it was fresh and of course darth Maul. Two was packed with great action scenes. Three had to extermination of the jedi kids and knights and you could just feel it but the birth scene of luke and leah was handled badly to me. I'll just go with Two because natalie portman looked hotter in that film plus the yoda fight and all the great action scenes though some of the cgi wasn't so good. I didn't include 4-6 in my selection because I just don't enjoy them as much as 1-3.

edit: I had the title number correct and then changed them now I have to change them back.

Episode V, The Empire Strikes Back.

It has the best director of them all, best script and the best paced.

And I join the group of Episodes I, II and III never happened.

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope

I enjoyed the sequals alot.  I like what they do with the story and Jedi has a good final battle and conclusion.

These are the best in my opinion, when these films came out they were doing new and exciting things with story telling and of course special effects.  There is a definite sense of excitement and adventure when watching these films something that is lacking in all of the most recent films.

The recent prequal trilogy is awefu.  The only thing I can say about those films is that Phantom Menace starts it off in a terrible fashion and some small improvements can be seen in the following two sequals.

Also worth noting that I prefer the original versions of the films not the bastardised newer versions.

 POP QUIZ:

Out of the three most recent films (Phantom Menance, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith) how many of these films were changed (bastardised) for their DVD release?

Answers in this thread please.

I thought people were actually joking about Phantom Menace being so great....then I realized they were serious, what a strange world we live in.

I agree with you.  It was better when Han fired first and the stormtroopers just realized it was 8 on 2 instead of running into like 50 stormtroopers.
