I think it would be pretty cool if the next COD took place about a hundred years in the future where they have to fight between a few planets like Mars, Earth, Moon, ect (but without aliens obviously).

Well it hasn't gotten buyer's fatigue for a few reasons. 

Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk never did reach COD's status and also both of them had a sever drop in quality whilst COD is maintaining good quality. Not to mention that FPS games have always been more popular.

 

Guitar Hero would have most likely kept going if they hadn't decided to release 2-3 rather meh Guitar Hero games a year. I blame Guitar Hero for essentially killing off the music genre.

That's a tired concept though, but so was Modern Warfare when it was released, however due to the awesomeness of the game, it was a foundation for a large franchise.

If they do it large, it can be the next new thing, but that's a risk, and I don't think Activision wants to take risks with the biggest franchise this generation.

I really hope COD will peak some of these years so it will start dying out, just like Medal of Honor, NFS and other franchises in the past.
