Forums - Gaming - The Future of a BG&E Sequel May be Contingent Upon Success of Rayman: Origins

If you loved Michael Ancel’s work on Beyond Good & Evil, but are a bit weary of the super-whimsical 2D platformer that is Rayman: Origins, Ubisoft has a proposition that may just sell you on eveyone’s favorite limbless hero.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is undoubtedly a project that Ancel would like to work on; however, with limited resources at Ubisoft and less than stellar sales of the original, it has been hard for the studio to justify funding such an ambitious project. But if gamers decide to go out and support Rayman: Origins, Ubisoft may just have it in their budget (and heart) to help expedite the development of a BG&E 2.

Speaking to IndustryGamers, Ubisoft’s Tony Key explained how consumers can best support the future of Michael Ancel’s endeavors:

If all the people that love Beyond Good & Evil understand [Ancel] is more than a one trick pony and if Rayman: Origins does well, it gives him more leeway for other opportunities because he has to build up his studio.

Beyond Good & Evil HD is doing very well on PSN and Xbox Live and there’s a lot of people coming back, and if they choose to do a sequel the audience is bigger than before.

So there you have it. If you want another entry in Jade’s adventure, then go out and pick up Rayman: Origins when it launches next week.

So in other words: You want BG&E? Buy this one, even if it's crappy.

I don't think so... it's more likely that if we would buy Rayman origins those rabbits would come back... in 2D

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

ooh gawd... manipulation tactic:

manipulatate the people buying something they might not want by in a sense holding a beloved IP hostage till they pay up with no intentions of ever creating the game in question/ or they could be already working on the game this whole time just pretending the Rayman success depends if it gets released or not.

This would make more sense if it was buy Rayman and you get Rayman2, but Why would Rayman have any effect on if this other game get made? If I buy Rayman doesn't mean im interested in BG&E( outside of consumers who fall for this) and shouldnt they be using BG&E HD to gauge interest?.

so all i have to do to prevent a second beyond good and evil is not buy rayman?! sold!!

Oh, I've seen this before. You want Resident Evil on the Wii? Then you better buy Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Chronicles.....oh, those games sold incredibly well? Thanks, suckers!

No, I'm not gonna fall for this....though Rayman was already sorta on my list of second stringers (With Sonic Gens, Halo Anni, and Cave Story 3D). But no. Ubi makes Assassins Creed, Prince of Persia, Raving Rabbids, Your Shape Fitness, Splinter Cell, and more. They have money to support BG&E2 if they want to. Ubi is actually one of my favorite developers. Seeing something like this from them is really disappointing.

The whole point of BG&E HD was to get attention for a sequel and now that it has done well, we have to buy a game that has nothing to do with the franchise?? Bullshit.

@Rol Wii owners pulling the slack for HD?? Please. HD owners wont buy this, because they actually have alot more OPTIONS. More than I can say for Wii. I mean, Jesus, its being released the same day as AC, WHY?! thats a much bigger franchise and it will surely kill alot of interest in Rayman on the HDs, hell I say Zelda will kill interest on the Wii.

The sad thing is I played the demo on PSN and its a really good game. But the release date sucks, not much ads and with this attitude i kinda hope it flops. IMHO this should have stayed DL, or at least not sent it out to die with that date and price

I'll look forward to seeing Beyond Good & Evil Rabbid Party Sports then.

There's hardly any competition for Rayman Origins on the HD consoles. The closest you get is Sonic Generations while RO is directly competing against Kirby on the Wii.

Assassin's Creed vs. Rayman Origins is surely a tough choice, if someone is looking for a platformer. Totally...

RO became a disc release, because it got too big. Apparently they packed enough content on the disc to last 20 hours (might be exaggeration on their part) and the game's design of getting new skills to use them in early levels isn't suited for downloadable episodes. The release date is unfavorable though.

All games compete with customers wallets to a certain extent, you think people only like one kind of genre?? If I want AC, or Rayman or whatever its going to be a tough choice, because i like both and they are both good games, im sure alot of people will run into that problem.  Sonic is bigger that Rayman as is Kirby, so really they still have an uphill battle. I know why they made it a disc release and I was for it, seeing as more people would get to play, but they are sending this out to die, IMHO. Whats the point then?? Unless they plan on dropping the price pretty damn fast and reaping those sales.

Well. Fuck.
