Forums - Sony - Is Folklore worth it?

A bit samey (repetitive that is) and simplistic in combat, but it's a good game. A 7/10 in my book. If you haven't played Oblivion, buy that one instead...

I agree with the poster above me. The game gets quite repetitive with every world following the same basic formula in aquiring new abilities to kill the hard monster to kill the boss. Then you have to do each level twice with both characters to get the full story.

Get Oblivion instead (game of the year edition with both expansions). Folklore isn't a bad game, but it's nothing fantastic either.

Edit: If you don't like western RPGs, wait for Eternal Sonata, White Knight Story, FF13, etc.

I definitely have to say Folklore is worth it. It's a beautifully made game with a good story. The art director did an impressive job from start to finish, imho.  I really enjoyed the different types of story telling the game uses. I've never ran into any sort of glitches or bugs with it, the music is abolsutely top notch. There's lots of download packs and hundreds of different folk combinations you can use to complete the game. The game has a good length to it, and you will find replay value in this game. I believe this to be one of the PS3's must have games. You will enjoy this game if you enjoy RPG's.

If you had a gamecube did you like "Lost Kingdoms"

I think its an all right game,

plus the girl you play is hot. come on, you agree with me, you know shes hot.

If you're into RPGs, it's worth it. I have only played it a bit but my friend (whose copy I now have) played all the way through and said it was a pretty good game with about 15-20 hours of gameplay.

Rather than take random peoples advice who may or may not have the same tastes as you try the demo.

just in case you misread my post...

Ok, I'll download the demo tonight and give it a shot. Thanks again for your input!

besides, I have read reviews from a lot of sites, and while not all of them say its the best, they say its at least worth a shot if you are a fan of RPGs which I am.

If you notice the time stamps you'll see that they are two minutes off.  I generally open four or five threads at a time and then read and respond so it's pretty easy for me to miss something by two minutes.

I don't know if there both still in the store, but there were two different demos for the game. One was more story driven while the other was more about the battles. Personally, I think the battle system and dungeons are very solid. You do have to go through each of them twice with the two characters, but there's variation because there are different folks with different abilities depending on who you're playing as. What really convinced me to get the game, though, was the story. There's many different angles to the story and the whole time you're trying to put all the pieces together. The game's definitely not gonna impress you with flash. Instead it's much more subtle and atmospheric. I could definitely see why someone wouldn't like it because it is a bit unconventional. But I personally find it to be very good and totally worth the money.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.
