Forums - Gaming - Sony Fans Should Thank MS

Mainly because it meant a cheaper PS3 ALOT sooner as I am sure SONY wanted to follow the PS2's footstpes in terms of price drop or even do better.  Even the clearance sales where great as you got a system $100 cheaper with all the goodies.  On top of all this the PS3 hasn't really lost any games though yeah there have been delays but what do you expect as the system is brand new and devs need to get used to it etc.  None of this would have been possible without the 360. Just like all the previous generations at least for me once the price is right or it has a game I just have to get I'll have all the consoles.

By the way this does not mean it was good for SONY obviously but if they can withstand the start they should be fine. Even if the 360 where to fail today or the PS3 where to fail in the future both systems have had or will have great games that are worth getting for at some point to play them.  The amount of gaming I done on my 360 has more than made up for the price it cost me.  Basically competition is good and typically leads to good things for the consumer.

lol, wow, you've changed your tone since earlier this year. XD I guess you're still fighting facing the fact the MSs 360 isn't looking in good shape at all cause if you think this is the shape a console in it's 3rd year is supposed to look like, after coming out with no competition for a whole year, then... wow.

Dont fight it, the 360 is in a lot of trouble and the writing on the wall should be clearer so if you actually put down hundreds of $$ for a 360 this year then you have only yourself to blame when Mr. Obvious comes knocking and you find you have to get a PS3 anyways. Just like a large majority of devot xbox fans who couldn't make the jump to current gen are doing in mases went out and got a PS2 - just get it right the first time and save your save the aggrevation and $$.

MikeB with MS handing out money hats for RPGs it keeps projects from going to the Wii. MS money hats with the exception of the Mistwalker titles have been for timed exclusivity. Once that period passes the developers port the title to PS3. The PS3 has the Final Fantasy XIII titles and White Knight Story, what else? The FFXIII titles, the main title more than the side games, will boost sales in Japan. White Knight Story, which will more an likely be the superior game, won't have near the effect. New IPs seem to have a more difficult time in Japan than in any other region. From a personal standpoint, Titles like White Knight Story are what its going to take for me to pick up a PS3. I have no interest at all in FFXIII.

Yer and I suppose you also READ about the PS2(which is still for sale) DVD drive of death ?...

Scroll down half way to Controversies

E.g -
Owners of early PS2 models purchased from launch until spring 2003 often reported faulty optical drives in their consoles. The earliest drives suffered from a constantly misaligning laser lens, which could also result in discs being scratched by the lens. Later defects were the result of a shift in voltage to the laser. The first problem was easily remedied by opening the console's casing and tweaking a cog that controlled the lens's distance from the disc; however, this action voided the console's warranty. The second problem could be fixed by using an oscillator. After many consoles had broken down, a class action lawsuit was filed against Sony. Sony agreed to provide free repair or replacement for the faulty consoles and continued to do so until February 2005.[citation needed]

Another problem that could cause a disc read error is wear on the coupling in the head assembly to the worm gear that moves the laser. A symptom of this is a loud repetitive clicking sound. Nevertheless, this problem rarely occurs on newer consoles.[citation needed]

I had 3 of the PS2s replaced 1 wouldn't read discs the other two sounded like two cogs with brocken teeth grinding together every time the tray was opened..
Didn't stop the PS2 becoming the worlds best seller though did it?..

Propaganda on the internet is easy -
E.G
I know someone who has had 4 PS3s all due to the dust problem they are known to have.
I have READ about people getting the latest 40 gig PS3 and are having heating issues.
Is this true or bull ? you will never know that's the power of internet propaganda

The Elite is a superb machine it runs cool and quite instead of READING try going and asking people in the REAL WORLD......

No console has been as poorly made as the Xbox 360.  It's fairly common knowledge at this point.

knew Bioshock wasn't going to be on the PS3 when I got it, but if I really wanted to play it, I would have just got a 360

It's available for the PC as well. Mass Effect may come to the PC and PS3 as well eventually, in any case the devs haven't ruled this out like with regard to MGS4 and Final Fantasy, I really have to wonder why these rumours don't just die. These games tap into the PS3's distinguishing factors such as Blu-Ray and the Cell processor.

The BioShock PS3 rumours had far more merrit, as they originally announced this game for next-gen consoles, meaning more than just for the 360. Also the config.ini file suggested this:

"[Console]

Console (XBox360, PS3) specific settings

StreamingDynamicFloatingLimit:"

So the BioShock rumours were not entirely baseless.

My PC can't run those games....and I'm not spending $150-200 for a MOBO and processor, then $250 or higher for a GPU that will be able to effectively handle the game....they are 360 exclusive in my eyes. And sure, the Bioshock rumors had more merit ie there was a programming code on the Bioshock PC DVD, however, the developers have said over and over "NO PS3 BIOSHOCK!!!" So why would anyone belligerently buy a PS3 if they wanted to play the game now? And what's worse, complain that they don't get the game, knowing what developers have said time and time again. I said this over at Destructoid (haha) many fans seem to think no means yes......if a developer says a game isn't coming out, they think it will. Well, if they really think that holds true, idealogically, then they'd all be rapists. They need to learn that no means NO

Currently playing:

Unreal Tournament 3, Warhawk, Rock Band, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XII, DMC2, then 3, and Radiata Stories

@ boilermaker11

however, the developers have said over and over "NO PS3 BIOSHOCK!!!

Actually that was the case with regard to MGS4 and FF XIII being said to be exclusive for the PS3 on many occasions with very little effect.

With regard to BioShock there were no clear statements when they looked at the code, until they made it clear their plans changed and so the rumour died quickly. Still hope it's just a temporary ca$h deal like the Paramount one, I did sign a petition to ask for a PS3 port.

Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Of course it's exclusive () and apart from the direct statements, we already knew the devs built up the engine (White Engine, 3rd parties should be able to use for other games as well) for the Cell's SPEs from the ground up, they also stated 50 GB Blu-Ray is still a limiting factor for them.

PS3 vs 360 sales

I find it amusing that no one has answered yet, however you are correct in that the competition between these two consoles should bring about more interesting games as both are pretty much competing for the same market space.

Can I say "maybe"? Sony's approach to the PS3 was arrogant, plain and simple, and I'm not sure that many people would have been lining up for a $600 system, whether or not the 360 was there as an alternative. Remember the 360 sales were pretty weak for the first half of 2007 too. WHat seemed to motivate Sony was 1) the sales of the Wii, and 2) that the buzz among gamers was quickly turning into Sony bashing. The price cut was the only way that they could have maintained viability.

Actually Microsoft should be thanking itself in a way for a defective system. The RROD has caused their sales to go up. Please do not call me a liar because there are reports of mad people being on their third to fourth system. Because these people did not send for a replacement they increased the sales by purchasing another system. I am glad mine has never messed up, and I have had mine since 3 months after it hit the market. They should also be thanking themselves because the money that the buisness has. It enables them to just buy out rights of exclusives from Sony. In the end they will lose out because that will force Sony to make new original exclusives with original ideas which will set the standards for game expectations just like Sony has always done.
