Forums - Gaming - Sony Fans Should Thank MS

Hey Sony Fans should thank Nintendo too -

Thanks to the Wii motion sensing is likley to improve on both consoles as they compete for games (wii bowling VS Ps3 Hi Velocity bowling for example), I like nintendo for their motion sensing and giving Sony another competitor which may result in more intuitive motion usage in games in the future.

And competition from Xbox 360 means Sony also have to do better graphics.

Competition is good for Consumers.

@ fred

What are you talking about read the Wikipedia description, you don't go round opening up a new machine voiding warranties and try and align laser heads, cogs etc yourself and don't make out the problems were any less serious, it's exactly the same if you had to have the machine replaced/fixed ....

If the console is under warranty, it's still under warranty! You send the console to Sony for repair instead.

Don't know, we may have lost BioShock, this and a (framerate solid version) of Mass Effect I may have been interested in for the PS3.

For the long run I think the 360 will become a minor factor and if so, I think this would good for the PS3 as devs may decide to much better tap the PS3's distinguishing factors. (Likewise most mulitplatform Amiga games only started to tap into important hardware benefits when the Atari ST was being overshadowed)

No Mike you said the PS3 may have lost Bioshock and a (framerate solid version) of Mass Effect.

A thanks to Nintendo mainly for expanding the market, IMO the console is currently the best new console (the PS2 is also a good option, although the PS2 has beaten the 360 this christmas and was the best selling system the christmas before, it has to deal with market saturation) suited for kids, in addition the device may attract more females and older people to console gaming.

As with regard to graphics I think Sony would have pushed there anyhow trying to compete with PC gaming (now even mouse and keyboard is supported by the device opening up new oppertunities for strategy and other mouse/keyboard preferred games)

I am not interested in any of the other 360 games. I played Kameo, Dead or Alive 4 and Tomb Raider Legend the most on the 360, I bought into the hype surrounding Gears of War but didn't like the game that much for various reasons. IMO Halo 3 is similarly overhyped.

If anything, MS just drove Sony to release the PS3 a year earlier than they would have otherwise. The PS3 was too expensive to produce on release, if it weren't for the need to release to counteract 360 momentum it probably would have come out this Christmas season, at a more reasonable price.

Mainly because it meant a cheaper PS3 ALOT sooner as I am sure SONY wanted to follow the PS2's footstpes in terms of price drop or even do better.  Even the clearance sales where great as you got a system $100 cheaper with all the goodies.  On top of all this the PS3 hasn't really lost any games though yeah there have been delays but what do you expect as the system is brand new and devs need to get used to it etc.  None of this would have been possible without the 360. Just like all the previous generations at least for me once the price is right or it has a game I just have to get I'll have all the consoles.

By the way this does not mean it was good for SONY obviously but if they can withstand the start they should be fine. Even if the 360 where to fail today or the PS3 where to fail in the future both systems have had or will have great games that are worth getting for at some point to play them.  The amount of gaming I done on my 360 has more than made up for the price it cost me.  Basically competition is good and typically leads to good things for the consumer.

QFT.

Which is why I'm confused as to why every 360 fan wants almost every Playstation game. They won't leave MGS alone. Won't leave FFXIII alone. So on and so forth......but if they were to get all those games, then PS gaming division would crap out, M$ would have a monopoly, and then they could simply do whatever they want

Just like most Sony fanboys confuse me when they want Mass Effect, Halo, and BioShock.

How many rumours have gone around that PS3 is getting BioShock...  When Bungie jumped away from Microsoft the first questions were "When will Halo come to PS3"...  And ever since EA got Bioware the mantra has been "When will Mass Effect come to PS3"...

If you want to play all the games, go buy all the consoles...  I did and that way it doesn't matter which ones are exclusive.

Exactly as I was saying. If you want to play games that are only on certain consoles, you must get the consoles, not get one console, then complain at the others for getting games you, at the end of the day, chose not to play by buying the competitors system.

I'll admit, I'm a Sony fan, but the only time I ever bring up Bioshock and Mass Effect, or w/e going PS3 is when people don't stop speculating on MGS and others. I knew Bioshock wasn't going to be on the PS3 when I got it, but if I really wanted to play it, I would have just got a 360, not a PS3 and say "Give the PS3 Bioshock". It's all business, M$, Sony, even Nintendo know what they're doing when it comes to games coming only to their platforms. It all just comes down to who wants to play their systems, NOT play their systems for games not coming to them

It's available for the PC as well. Mass Effect may come to the PC and PS3 as well eventually, in any case the devs haven't ruled this out like with regard to MGS4 and Final Fantasy, I really have to wonder why these rumours don't just die. These games tap into the PS3's distinguishing factors such as Blu-Ray and the Cell processor.

The BioShock PS3 rumours had far more merrit, as they originally announced this game for next-gen consoles, meaning more than just for the 360. Also the config.ini file suggested this:

"[Console]

Console (XBox360, PS3) specific settings

StreamingDynamicFloatingLimit:"

So the BioShock rumours were not entirely baseless.

I should give up as we are going through pointless semantics. You may have meant one thing but that is not how you stated it. The bolded this equals Bioshock. This and a (framerate solid version) of Mass Effect means Bioshock and Mass Effect. Not only that, you were responding to Elnino334's comment about lost PS3 games. If you didn't think the game was lost on PS3, why include it in your response?

As for Sony fans thanking MS, the only think they could possibly thank MS for are the JRPG's. Without MS's moneyhats I doubt there would be as many JRPG's for the HD consoles. The Wii is stomping both the PS3 and 360 in Japan and without MS' financial incentives 3rd parties would be more likely to focus on the only console that sells in their home market, the Wii. It is much cheaper for a 3rd parties to port an already paid for game to PS3 than to risk creating that game for the PS3 from the ground up given the limited Japanese userbase of both it and the 360. There are over 2 Wiis for ever PS3 and 360 in Japan.

What JRPG's on the PS3 should PS3 users thank Microsoft for? 360 is and has been a near non-factor for Japan anyhow.

One reason why the PS3 hasn't sold many consoles in Japan yet is the current lack of high profile JRPGs... Of course this will change with PS3 exclusive games like Final Fantasy and White Knight Story.
