Forums - Gaming - Why doesnt every retailer break the street-date?

Hey,

pretty much every big game gets sold somewhere earlier than intended. And i've never seen that a retailer gets charged for it or something.

luckilly, the titles this holiday Season are everything but  JRPGs, so i dont care that much about having one of the titles still coming out this year (or titles recently released) later or earlier than estimated, but really - sooo many shops ship and sell earlier - why cant Stores like Gamestop, Walmart etc. just sell them when they get the games?

i am sure that bigger retailers like those listed above will get pretty much fucked, since they would have to pay a crapton of Money to the publishers, while small, independent gameshop's dont have to (beeing charged for selling 10 copies would be not worth the effort), they are most likely able to go away with it unharmed.

but yeah, instead of pissing the guys off who bought their games from whatever big retailer, Pub's just should let 'em sell the stuff, or thy should really charge anyone who breaks the date, even if its not worth it.

opinions?

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

The 'punishment' from the publishers would be to 'accidentally' ship stuff to those places known to break dates a little later, so they only get stock 2-3 days after their competitors. That way the publisher doesn't lose money overall, they just provide an incentive to sign the contract holding them to a simultaneous release.

I wish they did. I can't wait until Friday.

they could pay a heavy fine....but in Florida they sold COD modern warfare 3 a
week early for $100 dollars, standard edition too..
