It has already been announced that Windows 8 will work with ARM processors.

Has to. With the way it looks and works, it's an improved win7 oriented for tablets and mobile devices.

But I did not think of that at the time of the post. Will ARM CPU's ever be viable for home builders, I wonder?

The changes run deeper than that, I've used W8 for a bit of time now, and I very much prefer it to W7, even on my laptop. I don't think ARM processors is going to replace x86 or x64 for enthusiasts though, especially because you can't run old Windows programs on them.

How about emulation? Like Intel macs emulating PPC mac software (or other way around, forgot), WOW64, etc... could work.

I'm not installing an OS until full release though. Plus, I love W7 to death.

I don't know if it's viable, at least not for newer games. I'm sure games like Half-Life could be emulated, but I imagine something like Crysis would be a bit harder.

And FYI, you can just install an extra operating system alongside your existing one, if you're curious enough.

Yeah, I know. I multiboot XP-W7-Ubuntu however, and I've fucked up my MBR more times than I remember, so I don't want to do any changes.

Fair enough then. The developer preview certainly feels a bit unpolished, but it's hard to expect otherwise from something that's not even close to being a full release. It does do exciting things though. ^_^

Smaller, cheaper and focused on Kinect.

So Microsoft want their own Wii?

It looks like MS is actually intrigued by teh C3ll if they want to follow and push further the concept of GP cores plus SP ones...
BTW the extension to all Windows versions of ARM compatibility is necessary to avoid the possible disruption brought by cheap Android desktops incompatible with Windows desktop, as otherwise MS could be unable to counter them like it with Linux netbooks. But it could be too late.

remember Xbox's full name and you will don't think about that(wii-like console for next gen)

and some people always said 360 don't have enough powerful cpu to support Kinect, why now forgot it?

really?(if)next Xbox like wii because Kinect?are some people kidding me?

Besides the Win9 thing (true or mistake with Win8?) that's what really sparked my curiosity. One central procesor with multiple assistants? And all of them being ARM based?

I don't know what will developers think of that. They're probably too used to x86 to like the change.

We should ask Epic. Is the Unreal Engine 4 ready for ARM processors?

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Chill out, I was joking

Although I wouldn't be surprised if they did put more effort on the casual market. All three companies may do it, actually.

Code named "The Loop"?

I would like to take this moment to point out that, years ago, in one of these threads, I stated that the next Xbox should be called the Xbox Infinity. My reason? Two circles (aka: Two "360's") can combine to form an infinity symbol (which coincidentally looks like a loop!)

Have I predicted the future once again? Time will tell.

Considering what Epic is doing on iOS and with the Vita, I don't think ARM is going to be a problem for them.
