Forums - Microsoft - GTA V File Size: Three DVDs Not Enough For Xbox 360? (Analysis)

It seems like they will HAVE to get the SP onto 1 disc. It wasn't a big deal for LA Noire because the swapping was required for faces, not the city. However GTAV won't have the face data, so that means the assets (aka the city) is what is going to take up most of the space. In an open world game you can't have swapping between different city areas.

I'm sure Rockstar will figure it out (They have to).

I've played GTA IV but not RDR or LA Noire. Can someone who has played them tell me how much bigger are than GTA IV?

If the game is so big that needs more than 1 DVD, I think Microsoft will have a problem: Rockstar won't be able to "force" an install on the 360 because Microsoft forces every game to be able to work on their non-HDD consoles, so they will have to go with disc swapping, and with a game like this one, that may hurt their sales.

MP disc 1,SP disc 2(or disc 2~3) like BF3

if Rockstar can

Yes, they could put the multiplayer on a separate disc but, from the article, the problem seems to be that the city is too big to fit in 1 disc, and while swapping the disc work with certain games, GTA is a sandbox game. How do you "break" the game in 2 discs without ruining it? You can't break the city in half and force players to constantly be changing the discs as the ongoing mission forces you to go back and forth from side to side of the city.

Please excuse my bad English.

I believe the City of L.A. Noire was on each of the three discs.

LA Noire is coming to OnLive this Tuesday, so if that does good, I'm sure we'll see GTA V for OnLIve, in fact I think theres a possibility that it may be exclusive to OnLive, or OnLive & PC, because they've pushed the systems to limits to as far as they can go. But before you say Rockstar would never go exclusive with one platform, let me remind you that OnLive works on PC, Mac, Linux (Sort-of), Microconsole (Console), and is coming soon to iOS & Android.

Give me your weed.... it's better stuff then mine....... >__>

Actually the city was able to be on each of the discs.  It was the facial animations/data that took up most of the space, so you only needed to changed at specific points in the story so it wasn't a big deal.  Having to switch when entering new areas would be a huge issue as you would be switching discs constantly.  Rockstar will hopefully figure it out.

EDIT: nvm I think we are saying the same thing, I thought you were initially implying that the city of LA Noire was split amongst the three discs.  Disregard this ha.

Plays random mission....Insert disc 3 this kind of stuff probably going to happen..

Here's a comparison:

2.5 times the map of RDR would be massive compared to GTA IV
