Forums - Sales - Europe software sales undertracked ?

According to Square-Enix shipment numbers for Deux Ex: Human Revolution there were more copies shiped to Europe (1,38M) than to NA (0,8M).

It the oposite at Vgchartz. There are more NA sales than EMEAA which is bigger than Europe. I don't know if digital sales are counted in SE's numbers but even if they did the difference between NA and Europe is too big. The software sales for Europe/EMEAA are probably undertracted.

I've heard before that VGC's SW tracking in EMEAA isn't too good.

I think they take UK sales and apply some kind of formula, which is why when a game releases in Europe but doesn't release in the UK (PES) it doesn't appear in the charts. So I'm guessing they are very, very rough numbers.

Also, every time Sony tells us how much software PS3 has moved it appears that it is quite more than what VGC shows, so it seems SW is constantly undertracked in EMEAA.

Hold on... They just look at the UK and apply some weird rule to work out the rest of Europe?.... No wonder I see other people call this sites numbers a joke. That's insane!

All of the numbers, I believe, are based on the site getting a small subset of data (by polling and other techniques) and then extrapolating from that.  External numbers then serve to help confirm the results and "tune" the algortihm.

The worst region for the site to extrapolate is EMEAA so this is where there is the greatest margin of error.  With the 360 being more US centric by a fair way I always assume the 360 numbers are more accueate.  PS3 and Wii I take with a bigger pinch of salt because a bigger chunk of their sales is outside US and therefore more vulnerable to error.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

You are talking about HW numbers which already are pretty accurate because we keep getting official updates on it. But Software numbers are far from being accurate.

Europe = PC
Deus Ex = PC

that could explain something

No I'm talking SW.  Well I suppose I'm talking both in a sense.  But I meant SW specifically in this case as that's what he was talking about - i.e apart from official releases SW is much harder to extrapolate in EMEAA than in US and Japan region.

I just mentioned PS3 and Wii in terms of the fact more of their SW is sold in that region and they are their SW totals (HW too to a lesser extent) are therefore subject to a higher degree of error than 360 SW.

Shiped between launch and 30th September was 0,8M to NA and 1,38M to Europe. Vgcartz has PS360 sales at 0,79M for NA and 0,56 for EMEAA between launch and 26th Oktober.

The ship vs sold ratio looks ok for NA but is >0,8M off for EMEAA. I know PC sales are stronger for Europe, but if Deux Ex sells good on PC then there should be more PC sales for NA too.

Europe sales are very weird on the site

if the sales are really based on UK, this sucks and is highly inaccurate

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^
