So we all know the earnings for Sony werent good.

PS3 isnt making them much profit 

does anyone think if PS4 has the same fate that Sony will leave the gaming market? especially with microsoft taking alot of market share?

After looking at PS Vita and the way its being launched, the answer is no.

Sony'll be careful not to lose so much money on PS4. Anyway, I think PS3 is making them money at the moment, it's just that other areas dragged them donw. Also, the PS brand is a way to sell other products like TVs, BD players, etc., that are not directly reflected in PS profits.

Dunno, I think PS is too big a brand (still) to let it go, but I don't know what Sony'd do if they lost loads of money on PS4.

If the PS4 takes Vitas Direction, Sony and PlayStation will be fine.

This. PS3 is way to important for sony to ever sell them - if sony were to stop the ps brand, the effect on sony in terms of stock market and brand appeal/marketing would be huge. PS is more than just a game related brand to sony. Besides, I think they may make a profit in this, the holiday quarter - with a new handheld coming, ps3 sales doing well on the back of a price cut (albeit one that seems to have contributed to the loss) and with UC3 doing pretty well, hopefully their books will be in the green for this quarter to help them. Interestingly, sony themselves dont seem to be too worried about the loss with them buying companies left and right this year. I think they are positioned reasonably well for the future imo.

soon when Vita and PS4 comes they will start loosing money again.

Sony as a whole is looking shaky. "Sony" itself might not be around in 10 years if they don't start pulling themselves together. =
