I believe that all of the people who recommended it in this thread actually own the windows phone and know why its awesome.

I've owned all kinds of phones and I'd have a windows phone over Android any day. I just cant be bothered with android anymore. Even ice cream sandwich looks like a hack job copying everyone elses ideas and meshing them together without much logic or intuition. Its like half iOS, quarter widnows phone (people hub? hmm) and quarter webOS.

Andorid is a fine OS if that is what you are in to and decide to invest your time in to, but in no way is it more intuitive, faster or better suited for smartphone users than iOS or Windows Phone 7 out of the box.

Go with Windows Phone. The integrated UI is just awesome. Android is just to fragmented and will just continue to get more fragmented and although phones with more power are available it is simply because of fragmentation Android phones just plain need more power. iPhone UI is getting long in the tooth. If you simply like a grid with icons then go for it. I prefer the live tiles of Windows Phone and how integrated the OS with what I want to do with a phone.



Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

No need to apologize dude as I wasn't offended or anything... It did come off like you were saying that people supporting WP on this topic all work for Microsoft or are Microsoft zombies though...lol

As far as smart phones, I remember a time in 2008 and 2009 when I was very optimistic about android. Back then people were putting it down when comparing it to Windows Mobile 6 and 6.5  due to lack of features and apps and saying its not mature ecosystem while others were saying WinMo was bloated and that simplistic Android 1.6 was easier to use and better suited for their needs.  How times change eh... I see the exact same arguments, except other way around.

Exactly. The rest of my post doesn't recommend a specific phone instead i told him to get some personal hands on to see what he likes best. Heck thats what i did; and thats why there are many phones running different OS, some more popular than others.

More interesting is where this whole mobile OS thing is going to be in two years, which is when i plan to get a new phone (not tied down by contract, just a consumerism thing). Will there be an Iphone 5S? Will Android get bigger or be different?Will Microsoft still be in? Will RIM's Blackberry become popular again? Its fun to think about it.

Yeah, it can be fun... I have a little analogy for the smartphone market I made.

Remember how in the 90s everyone and their mother was making video game consoles. I mean you had NEC, Sega, Nintendo, 3DO, Atari, Phillips, Sony, SNK, Apple even... Then they started getting shelved one by one and by 2001 only 3 were left standing. This is what is starting to happen to smartphone ecosystems as of 2011.It appears that only 3 will stay.

Its fun to try to tie each ecosystem with console manufacturer which similarly describes their role in smartphone industry. My guesses would be as follows:

Apple iOS = Nintendo for obvious reasons

Android = Sony

Win phone 7 = Microsoft (late to the party with loses, but tide will turn)

RIM = Sega

Nokia Symbian = Atari

WebOS = 3DO? SNK maybe? Ahead of its time but no support...

Update to iOS5, if you are not satisfied or simply looking for a new experience, then skip iPhone 4S. Consider a Samsung phone. Galaxy SII is a monster with a beautiful display and an enormous battery life.

Hmmm... I am not sure about this but I remember something about galaxy sii being shipped with 2 different sized batteries.

battery isnt that bad though as long as its not being used too much

I've got he Droid 3 and it is a great phone, super fast, lots of features. One of the main reasons I got it is because it has a tangible keyboard, because I hate typing on a touch screen. The Android marketplace has a great app selection and the screen size is 4 inches! Though my one con is the battery life, I end up having to charge it every other day on average use.

 

Edit: Definitely look for an extended battery, they come in very handy,
