If I wasn't feeling so lazy I would go back and observe when ST was under fire and find out who were the active posters who seemed to distance themselves from him. Also, point out the votes that felt like tag alongs.

For the child, it's probably not a middleman but more an extra death akin to the civilian of shock's death. Just to make the mafia more evil.

However you think it's odd, MG means the mafia wanted to play it safe... which is a sound attitude with being already one down. Though as you say, not many deserved to be doced/watched and too many deserved to be tracked/coped... The choice of a character that was somewhat in the background may indicate that contrary to what the town setup appears to be (2 vanilla), the mafia has power roles (?) prompting them to a greater fear of the town's ability. This would lead me to think that people who hinted at vanilla are a bit less suspicious than the ones that hinted at powers.
