Obviously I was mistaken, but look at ST's language: "You're a vengeful mafia member, right? Come on, admit it."
It's not capitalized, and it's got "a" in front of it. At the time I took this to mean he didn't mean it as a title or proper noun, but upon reflection I understand that that doesn't necessarily follow. However, the kicker was "member". This really drove home in my mind that he wasn't saying "vengeful mafia" the role, but "a vengeful member of the mafia" because he just revenge voted.
ST's corrected me, but your question still had to be answered since it was about my own thinking on the matter.

That's quite a good explanation actually. When you put it like that it's actually odd that ST really did mean his role rather than demeanor.

I don't really get what you're trying to say. Please explain. I meant the role, as I was looking for an explanation on why MDJ acted the way he did.
|
Please clarify what you meant by "vengeful"
|
Vengeful as in:
"A Vengeful player is a one that, when lynched, is awarded the ability to kill any other player as they die." from mafiascum.net.
The role came to my mind because I had the same role last round.

That's what I figured you meant by it, but I wanted to be sure.
Your "thoughts" and vote simply don't add up. You talk about his absense, yet I feel like others weren't very present during the time either.(probably myself included) I would have to do postals to check that, and I don't like them much anymore nor do I have the time. Whether true or not, it was a very weak reason.
His absense wasn't the main I suspected him to be scum. Lurking itself is a weak reason, that is true. However, added with his first post, it makes a valid suspicion.
As for the introduction, you never explained pre or post-modkill what made it so scummy. Heph is the only one I remember that addressed it and said he wouldn't expect it from mafia, but possibly third-party. So another strike for that. Then you say "I hope for you that you're scum", which makes no sense at all.
His post looks like a typical newb mistake as scum. He admits that he's been put much pressure on, which would make sense if he would have been scum. I dunno if MDJ has been scum before, but that's exactly what I would expect an extroverted player like MDJ as scum to say. Given the situation, I should've probably said that earlier, yes. The last sentence was related to his weak playstyle. Imagine he had an important role, like cop or doc. Wouldn't you be angry as well if he simply wasted his role like that?
Next you show no hesitance at lynching MJD if you actually thought he was Vengeful Mafia. There's no sense of 'wait, this is exactly what MJD wants', thus I'm left thinking it was an artificial thought. Also, with all the concern you present at possibly losing a townie, you show none for the possibility of giving mafia two choices of who they pick off.(Vengeful + Night Kill)
You're right, I had no hesistance at lynching him, even considering his Vengeful role. As you mentioned later, a good mod always gives a way to counter the kill. Guess who's got the power to do that?
Finally, you were convinced that he's scum yet still straddled with uncertainty when you said he should ask for replacement. And later you reaffirm that you were certain he was scum. The problem is you state you didn't want to lynch him, but pressure him. Caught scum knows they're dead to rights and so they don't give away anything but WIFOM,(link for anyone unfamiliar) so voting with insistence that he's certain scum is exactly what you shouldn't have done.
I was convinced the whole time. I didn't withdraw my suspicion with the second post you linked, I was simply pissed that he didn't take his role seriously. You probably know the phrase "never jugde a book from it's cover". Well, as we can only read comments from the users here, we're stuck at judging the books from it's covers. Point is: If a player's behaviour is scummy, then I have to go by that behaviour and call it scum. What you described as uncertainty, is a natural cautiousness. You can be 99% sure that somebody is scum (like I was on MDJ), but never 100% (unless you have information from your role of course). MDJ turned up town, so this is exactly what I meant, and it's the same situation with your suspicions on me now. You're absolutely certain that I'm scum, but I assure you you're as wrong as I was on MDJ.
I was going to vote you last night, but I didn't get to finish my reread before sleep beckoned. Nothing since then has made me believe anyone else is more likely scum then you though. So without further ado
